Banged-up Detroit Tigers continue to struggle at plate, fall 4-2 to Cleveland Indians.
from Mlive

Jimenez entered Tuesday on a pace for a 139-walk season, which would be the most by a Cleveland Indians pitcher in more than 40 years.
But, the Tigers couldn?t draw a walk off Jimenez until the seventh inning as he limited the Tigers to only five hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Jimenez, who leads the American League in walks (43) and wild pitches (seven), had thrown only 58 percent of his pitches for strikes.
It was worse Tuesday as only 55 of his 102 pitches went for strikes.
Still, the free-swinging Tigers swung at will off Jimenez, stranding six runners.

Tigers fizzle against Ubaldo, Indians.
Miggy drives in lone run off Tribe starter; late rally not in the cards.

For the second consecutive game, a pitcher with an ERA over 5.00 coming into Comerica Park held Detroit's talented but inconsistent offense to a lone run.
The Tigers' sixth loss in their last eight games also marked the seventh game in that span in which they were held to four runs or fewer. It came after Leyland shared responsibility for the offensive struggles.

June 6 in Tigers and mlb history:

1921 - Bill Gatewood of the Detroit Stars pitches the first no-hitter in the history of the Negro National League, defeating the Cuban Stars 4 - 0.

1944 - All major league games are canceled as the country's focus is turned toward Europe while allied forces invade occupied France.

1958 - Ozzie Virgil, acquired from the New York Giants in January, becomes the first black player to appear in a Detroit Tigers game. The versatile Dominican will eventually play every position but pitcher during his nine-year major league career.

1990: Cecil Fielder hits three home runs in a game, as Detroit beats the Indians 6 - 4. Fielder becomes the fourth American League player to have two three-homer games in a season.

1992 - In the Tigers 6-2 victory over New York at Yankee Stadium, Lou Whitaker collects his 2,000 career hit. The milestone comes in the 4th inning when Whitaker grounds a double down the right field line off Scott Kamieniecki. In his next at-bat, “Sweet Lou” slams a home run to deep right field. Whitaker is the seventh Tiger to reach the 2,000-hit mark and the first since his teammate Alan Trammell who did it in 1991.

2005 - Infielder Placido Polanco is sent by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for reliever Ugueth Urbina and utility infielder Ram?n Martinez. Urbina, a two-time All-Star as a closer, will become the setup man for Billy Wagner in Philadelphia, and Polanco will become the starting second baseman in Detroit.

Tigers' struggles against Jimenez symbolizes offensive ineptitude.
from the detnews

Boesch is in a serious funk right now. He's hitting .173 with a.465 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) at home. He's hitting .226 with a .600 OPS for the season. And after showing signs of life ? he hit .355 over a 17-game stretch in May ? he's 2-for-34 in his last nine games with two RBIs coming on sacrifice flies.

add Holaday with Avila to DL, they have NINE players on 25-man roster who began season as MudHens.
