Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

For tonights Tigers - rockies game;
With the designated hitter back for the Tigers for the next six games, keep an eye out on how many games Delmon Young starts at DH. Leyland said last Sunday that he would probably get him a couple games a week in left field, thinking the occasional time can help him at the plate.
With lefty Jeff Francis starting for Colorado, Ryan Raburn gets the start in left field, giving Jim Leyland the extra right-handed bat he wants. Raburn is 3-for-10 with a home run lifetime off Francis, but went just 1-for-7 off Francis last year when Francis was in Kansas City.
With Casey Crosby on the mound, Bryan Holaday gets his first start at catcher since last homestand.

Ryan Raburn starting in left field, Delmon Young at DH in Detroit Tigers' opener vs. Colorado Rockies.
Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland told reporters Thursday that recently recalled outfielder/infielder Ryan Raburn would have to earn his playing time this time around.
It appears he did enough in his first game back to earn a second straight start.
Raburn is batting seventh for the second consecutive game and starting in left field as the Detroit Tigers open a three-game series tonight against the Colorado Rockies at Comerica Park.
In his first game back since being optioned in late May, Raburn went 2-for-3 and contributed right away, with an RBI double in the second inning to give Detroit a 2-0 lead.
Danny Worth will start at second Friday and bat behind Raburn and Delmon Young, who has started in left field the past six games while playing in National League ballparks. Young has been tabbed tonight's DH and will bat fifth behind Prince Fielder.
Left-hander Casey Crosby will make his third career start and will face a Colorado lineup that does not include Troy Tulowitzki. The shortstop is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on Friday, but he reaggravated a groin injury during a rehab assignment Wednesday.
The Rockies will counter with Jeff Francis, who gave up eight runs and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings of an 11-5 loss Saturday.

Man, the fact that Detroit Tigers fans overran Wrigley Field this week really seems to be sticking in Chicago's craw.

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" actor and Cubs fan Jeff Garlin sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch of Thursday's game, and he apparently wasn't impressed by the "root, root, root for the Tigers" hijacking.

"Lemme tell ya something, you Tigers fans suck," Garlin yelled over the stadium's loudspeakers at the end of the song.

He spent the next half-inning being interviewed in the broadcast booth on Cubs television. And the Tigers were still on his mind.
I want to apologize, by the way, not to Tigers fans, mind you, but for saying at the end there that Tigers fans suck. Because a.) I draw very well in Detroit. B.) I have respect for the Tigers. But c.) They're irritating me today. I don't like using the word 'suck,' but they made me angry. There are too many of them. I'm not used to that at Wrigley."

It might not come across in black-and-white, but Garlin was pretty lighthearted about the whole thing, which you can watch on video here.

And wouldn't you know it? The Magic Bag in Ferndale said Garlin just confirmed a show at the venue for Oct. 6.

Funny thing about baseball stadiums -- they let just about anyone buy a ticket, whether you're a fan of the home team or not.

You'd think they'd have learned that by now in one of the game's great tourist attractions, Wrigley Field, but there are some who weren't happy with an influx of Tiger fans at Wrigley Field this week.

Among those upset at an audibly pro-Tiger crowd at Wrigley Field was Cubs first baseman Bryan LaHair. On WSCR-AM 670 in Chicago (via the Chicago Tribune), LaHair had this to say:

"It actually bothered me a lot, but at the end of the day I think it's good baseball," LaHair told. "They brought a lot of fans down this series. It's funny, before the game when they announced [Justin] Verlander as the starting pitcher and the crowd went crazy, I looked over at the strength coach and said, 'is he pitching for us today?'

"That was before the game even started, so you oculd tell the atmosphere and the crowd was going to be excited both ways because when we did something good, the crowd was just as loud. I looked over, probably about the eighth inning; you know I even saw some Cubs fans jumping up and down when that big home run was hit for them."

According to the Tribune, there were some estimates that 75 percent of the 42,292 in attendance for the Tigers' 5-3 victory on Thursday.

Thanks to the Tigers, there were 124,782 fans at the three-game series, a record for a weekday series at the park.

Also annoyed was comedian Jeff Garlin, a Chicago native and Cubs fan. After singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," Garlin yelled, "Yeah, lemme tell you! You Tigers fans suck!"

Afterward, he apologized -- and then took it back. In the post-singing interview, he explained his comment (from the Detroit News):

"I wanna apologize, by the way, not to Tigers fans, mind you, but for saying at the end there that Tigers fans suck," Garlin said. "Because, A) I draw very well in Detroit, B) I have respect for the Tigers, but C) They're irritating me today, and I don't like using the word suck but they made me angry. There are too many of them!

"I'm not apologizing."

While Garlin was going for a laugh -- you know, since he's a comedian -- this week has gone to prove Tigers fans do anything but suck. Despite the team underperforming with a 30-33 record and third-place in the AL Central, Tigers fans invaded both Wrigley Field and Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park in the past week. In last weekend's three-game series in Cicninnati, GABP often sounded as if it was hosting a Tigers' home game. The three-game series brought in 115,062 to the banks of the Ohio River, including Saturday's crowd of 42,443 -- the largest non-opening day crowd in the park's history. The average attendance in the three-day series was 11,000 higher than the Reds' season average.

The Cubs drew 124,782 (an average of 41,594) for the series against the Tigers. That average crowd was nearly 4,000 more than Chicago's season average attendance at home.

At the same time, I'm certainly not going to blame Cubs fans for not coming out for a team that entered Thursday with a 21-41 record. If you want Cubs fans to pack their home park, give them something to cheer about. And with the Red Sox in town this weekend, LaHair can expect more cheers from the crowd when the visitors do something good.

Leyland reiterated Raburn was back primarily because Tigers "starved" for RH hitters. Bench is all LHH (except Holaday) when Worth plays.
Leyland: "Might play against these lefties, but he’s not going to play every day — unless something would pop, and he’d get going real good".
Leyland on Raburn: "It just made sense. You can't just (snap) and come up with a right-hand hitter."
Leyland on Raburn: "He’s not home free yet. ... But ... yesterday was case in point of what I talk about: He can score you from first".
On Raburn in Tigers lineup over a left-handed hitter, Leyland; "It writes better. I'm not saying it is better, but it writes better."

Tigers trainer Kevin Rand on Dirks: He was seen by Dr. Chris Zingas, foot & ankle specialist. It is tendinitis & we're looking at addressing it.
Rand on Dirks: "He's worked very hard, he's done all his treatment, therapy work, all his strength and range of motion work".
Rand on Dirks: "He's able to execute quite a few moves but there's a sticking point & we're trying to get to the bottom of that".
Rand on Dirks: "We're going to move in a different direction,treatment-wise, 2 kind of see if we can spur him over the hump".
Dirks getting Achilles re-examined so specialist can help training staff come up with new rehab regimen.
Leyland: "He's not doing too good."

Leyland admitted that the plan the Tigers had in place to limit Smyly's innings (tentatively around ASG) was changed because of blister.

Rand on Avila: "He's going through agilities, he's doing some running today,he's going to swing the bat". (1st baseball activity).
Today the first day Avila (hamstring) will be back doing baseball activities (i.e. hitting) since being shut down.

Fister: "We're going out there, going to pitch like we would just any other day. No hesitations. If there's a problem, we'll address it".
Fister: "I feel much better now (than 1st time off DL). When I'm on the mound, I don't feel anything & again, not reserving anything".
Leyland said Tigers will have move to bring Fister off DL tonight — barring anything unforseen, like first time Matt Young was headed up.

Detroit Tigers' Jim Leyland on injured outfielder Andy Dirks: 'He's not doing too good'.
from Mlive

Dirks still bothered by Achilles tendinitis.
Manager Jim Leyland has said the past two days that Andy Dirks isn't doing well in his recovery from right Achilles tendinitis. As a result, the outfielder was not activated from the disabled list on Friday night -- his first day eligible -- for the Tigers' three-game series opener against the Rockies.
Instead, he was re-examined by Dr. Chris Zingas, the team's foot and ankle specialist. Trainer Kevin Rand said after Zingas "repeated some studies," it was determined that the injury was still tendinitis, but the team would go in a different direction with its treatment.
"Andy's kind of reached a sticking point where it's bothering him to make one particular move that kind of irritates him," Rand said. "We [had] him re-evaluated this morning ... We're going to move in a different direction treatment-wise to kind of see if we can spur him."
Rand said he would have more info on the new treatment "later." Neither Leyland nor Rand provided a new timetable for Dirks' return.
Dirks was hitting .328 with four home runs and 16 RBIs on the season before being placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 31.
