Avila: From not doing anything 4 about a week & a half to catching, running, throwing, hitting, it kind of feels like spring training.

Avila: First time I've seen a pitcher in almost two weeks. Saw some pitches, had some pretty decent swings and feel pretty good.

Avila: I knew coming into today from what I was doing in Detroit over the weekend that my hamstring was good ...

Avila: ... and I just wanted to make sure I could get it to where I could go 100 percent not thinking about it.

Avila: Now it's getting back into a nice rhythm at the plate and seeing some pitches, take some balls off the chest, build up some bruises.

Avila: Oliver was a little wild at times but it was good to get back there and see some pitches and block some balls and move around.

Avila: I didn't want to happen what happened earlier where I took 3 days off, tried to play and then couldn't, then back and forth like that.

Avila: They've been playing really good baseball, consistent, winning series. That's what it's going to take for us to get back in it.

Avila: We're only three games out. That's nothing. That can change in a series. You just gotta play consistent.

Avila: It's been a lot of fun watching them but I can't wait to get back.

Report out of Japan that Hiroshima Carp are interested in Toledo's Brad Eldred- could mean why Tigers haven't brought him back.

Report: Japanese team interested in signing Brad Eldred, who was late scratch from Toledo's lineup.
from Mlive

Leyland said Thursday that one of the reasons the Tigers recalled Ryan Raburn from Toledo last week was because they needed a right-handed hitter and didn't have many options on the 40-man roster.
"We just don't have a right-handed hitter," Leyland said. (Brad) Eldred's the only guy, and that's a story for another day".

Brad Eldred to Japan?
from DetroitFox

Tying together the Japanese story, Google Translate and the NPB site, Hiroshima desperately needs a power hitter and picked Eldred.
Eldred: What's going on is probably obviously better for me and my family, so that's the way it's gotta be.
Eldred: Obviously that's where I'm going to go, do what's best for them.
Eldred: I couldn't really ask for a whole lot more. Obv. more opportunity or whatev u want to call it, it is what it is right now.

June 19 in Tigers and mlb history:

1953 Al Kaline signs with the Tigers and scout Ed Katalinas. In less than a week Kaline has his first major league at bat, and the rest is a great HOF career in baseball history.

1963 - Gates Brown of the Detroit Tigers becomes the eleventh player in American League history to hit a home run in his first at-bat in a loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

1972: The United States Supreme Court rules against former St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Curt Flood, who had sued Major League Baseball over the reserve clause after being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. The ruling upholds baseball's antitrust exemption, which was originally granted in 1922.

1994 - The Detroit Tigers hit at least one home run in their 25th consecutive game when Mickey Tettleton goes deep against the Toronto Blue Jays.

2009: Marcus Thames hits a pair of two-run home runs as Detroit beats Milwaukee, 10 - 4, in a rain-shortened game that ends with one out in the bottom of the 7th, after being delayed for more than two hours in the 4th. Zach Miner picks up the win in relief in the wild game in which video replay reviews deprive Dusty Ryan of an apparent home run in the 1st but grant one to Miguel Cabrera two innings later.
