Tigers release Brad Eldred from Triple-A Toledo. He's decided to sign with Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan. as expected.

Leyland on 6-6, 270-pound Eldred: "They love home runs over there in Japan. He’ll be a little bigger than most of the guys on the team".

Leyland on Eldred: "That’s one of the reasons we didn’t bring him up when we brought Raburn back because this was all in the works".

Since May 14, Prince Fielder is 2nd in the AL with a .367 average, 44 hits, 28 RBI and a .444 OBP

Dirks is in 3rd day of wearing a boot. Only treatment is ice right now. After a week, then he can try to do stuff.

Leyland says the Tigers are too nice, and need some "dirtbags" and "assholes" like the 06 team.

How come we will know much more about the Detroit Tigers very soon.
from the Oakland Press

After facing St. Louis, the Tigers begin a 10-game road trip at Pittsburgh, which is ahead of St. Louis in the NL Central standings. It gets much difficult after that, with three games at Texas and four at Tampa Bay. Those two teams are already a combined 21 games above .500 this season, including 14 at home.
If the season ended today, both would be in the postseason because of the expanded playoff format. The Rangers, of course, have won the last two AL pennants, and ousted the Tigers in the American League Championship Series. The Rays pushed the Rangers in the American League Division Series. The Rangers? three wins were by a total of five runs.

old friend Ryan Perry;
The Nats sent Ryan Perry to Class AA Harrisburg in order to convert him into a starter. Interesting plan for a right-hander with a big arm.
There was some talk about Perry as a starter after Tigers drafted him. It didn't get far. Will be interesting to see how it goes with Nats.
