Detroit Tigers' Jose Valverde has sprained right wrist, does not appear to be headed to disabled list.
from Mlive

Valverde suffered a right wrist sprain -- technically an injury to the flexor tendon, according to Rand -- while throwing a pitch in the bullpen during the top of the ninth inning Tuesday night. He had X-rays and an MRI late Tuesday night, then saw a hand specialist Wednesday.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland said who will close in Valverde's absence will depend on the situation.

The treatment regiment Valverde will undergo will include ice and a wrist immobilizer to protect the tendon.

"Do it left handed Jose, it will be like doing it with a stranger".

Tigers 'SHOULD' have two transactions after game tonight. Barring any setbacks, of course. Avila should be one after DHing in Toledo tonite.
Leyland on anticipating Avila's return Thurs: "I do. But I can’t say it for sure. Keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully everything goes well".

Jacob Turner's stuff is already in his locker, as well.

Valverde: Better news than last night. Said wrist still hurts. Will rest a few days then throw again.
Valverde said he couldn't feel fingers when he shut it down. Pain is on inside, pinky-side of right wrist.
Valverde does not think it's serious. No DL anticipated.
Rand said it's a sprain of a flexor tendon. Will re-evaluate after Valverde is asymptomatic.
Rand: "We put him in a wrist immobilizer to protect him for the next couple of three days, and we’re just going to treat him day-to-day."
Rand: "We’re not thinking it’s going to be long-term, obviously. We’re very pleased with the exam."
Rand: "We’re got some tricks up our sleeve as far as treatments go."
do not consider Valverde's wrist sprain a long-term issue; he's not headed to DL.
As far as the "tricks up their sleeve" that Rand mentioned ... 1) I did not see Jobu, 2) Rand was not wearing sleeves ... so ....
Leyland: "The 1 guy on that lineup card that becomes real huge for us right now, in Valverde’s absence, is Dotel. Because he has experience".
Leyland (cont.): "He has World Series experience. God only knows he’s familiar with most of cities we go to. He’s a big key for us rt now."

Got an answer to what Leyland would classify Coke as. It's not a dirtbag. It's a fart in a mitten.
Leyland on Coke: "He’s hyper whenever he comes in. No matter whether it’s the sixth inning or the ninth inning. He’s pumped up."
Leyland on Coke: "He’s got it when he gets here at 2:30. He’s like a fart in a mitten. He bounces off the walls all day long".

Leyland on Berry: "If you’ve got a hot hand you play him. If you’re playing blackjack and you’re hot, you up the ante a little bit."

Lions second-round draft pick Ryan Broyles throwing out the first pitch (one of three) at Comerica. Looked like a slider.

Santiago may not play Thurs: "It’s a day game after a night game, he’s playing well. Gotta be careful you don’t get greedy."

Leyland also said he'd talk to Prince regarding DH'ing Thursday: "Some guys feel better if they play, but I’d like to get him off his feet for a day."
