Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 3 Million Views!!! Thankyou!

Miggy's rivals hoping to see Triple Crown feat.
There are quite a few players close to Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera in home runs. But it appears if only one player is going to prevent him from being the first Triple Crown winner since 1967, That would be Texas' Josh Hamilton.

However, even Hamilton admits he wants to see Cabrera make history.
"I'm excited about it for him," Hamilton said on Tuesday. "I enjoy watching guys succeed at what I do. What a great accomplishment that would be."

Hamilton hit home run No. 43 to break the tie with Cabrera, who came into Tuesday's game against the Royals with 42. And although Hamilton would love to see it, he's not going to give it to the Tigers' slugger without a fight.
"I'm not going to stop playing. I'm rooting for him, but I'm not going to go out there and not try to hit home runs," Hamilton said. "But he's so close, I would definitely like to see it happen."
That appears to be the sentiment around the league.

The Twins were in town last weekend and catcher Joe Mauer, who is challenging Cabrera for the batting title, was excited about having a chance to see the league's first Triple Crown in 45 years. But Mauer wasn't giving in either.
"It's kind of fun to see a guy like that chasing a Triple Crown," said Mauer, who entered Tuesday's action with a .322 average compared to Cabrera's .331. "He's a guy that's done it [consistently] every year. To see him chasing that while they're chasing a playoff spot is pretty fun. ... But I'm going to keep going out there and trying to do what I can do."

So just like teams are trying to play spoiler and keep the Tigers out of the postseason, other players will attempt to do the same to Cabrera's Triple Crown hopes. They're just less enthusiastic about it.

Verlander insists sore left shoulder will be fine.
A few days from now it will likely be forgotten, but the Tigers got quite the scare during Monday night's contest, when ace Justin Verlander fell to the ground to field an errant throw and came up in pain holding his left shoulder.

Pitching to Royals center fielder Jarrod Dyson with runners at the corners, catcher Alex Avila tossed the ball back to Verlander, but it was deflected by the home-plate umpire and rolled back to the mound.
Thinking it was a live ball, he dropped to the ground to prevent the potential tying run from crossing the plate and rose gritting his teeth while head athletic trainer Kevin Rand sprinted out of the dugout.

"I think I gave myself a little bit of a scare and everybody else," Verlander said after the Tigers' 6-2 win. "It felt like it tried to pop out. I don't know what the feeling would be like."
Verlander said Rand didn't believe it "came out all the way." And with it being his non-throwing shoulder, the right-hander remained in the game and struck out Dyson and Alcides Escobar on 99- and 100-mph fastballs to end the inning.
Verlander also went on to throw 114 pitches and complete eight innings.

"I felt it for a little bit and then it went away," he said. "I got ice on it after the game and they said it will be pretty sore [Tuesday]."
On Tuesday, Verlander emerged from the training room sporting a red mark on the shoulder where he had been icing it. He said it felt as predicted, but after a few days of ice it should be back to normal.
"It was sore this morning, but it'll be fine," he said.

Tigers starter Max Scherzer (right shoulder fatigue) said after his outing on Sunday that he wasn't in his normal routine between starts and therefore didn't have the same zip on his fastball. However, Scherzer has since been cleared to conduct his normal activities and the hope is he'll be back to full strength.

Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta entered Tuesday night's game batting .169 for September. It's his worst month of the season and it was also his worst month in 2011 as well. He hit .259 in September 2011, and .220 in the postseason.

September 26 in Tigers history:

1926: In his final day in a Tiger uniform, Ty Cobb watches his replacement in centerfield gets six hits in a twin bill with the Red Sox to become the new batting champ as Heinie Manush edges Babe Ruth, .378 to .372, for the title.

1926 at Navin Field: Bob Fothergill hits for the cycle against Boston.

1948 at Briggs Stadium: An afternoon contest with Cleveland attracts 57,588, the greatest turnout ever for a single day game in Detroit.

1955 - The Red Sox beat the Yankees, 8 - 1, as Ted Williams goes 1 for 2. Williams finishes the season at .356, well ahead of Al Kaline's .340, but does not have enough at bats to win the batting title. The same thing happened in 1954. Williams was walked 136 times in 1954 and 71 times (an American League-leading 17 were intentional) this year.
A rule change will be made to recognize plate appearances, not times at bat, to determine the batting champion.

1967 - Cleveland's Luis Tiant beats the Red Sox, 6 - 3, despite Carl Yastrzemski's 43rd home run of the season. The Twins top the Angels, 7 - 3, behind two monster home runs by Harmon Killebrew, his 42nd and 43rd of the season. Mickey Lolich blanks the Yanks, 1 - 0, for Detroit to tighten the pennant race. The Twins (91-68) lead with Chicago (89-68) and the idle Red Sox (90-69) a game back, and Detroit (89-69) one and a half back.

For the first time in who knows how long -- I'm guessing late May -- ESPN has the #Tigers the percentage favorite to win the AL Central.
