Tigers have picked up the club options for 2013 on both Dotel & Peralta.

Dombrowski: I'd say it was an answer that was pretty obvious for us (Dotel option).

Dombrowski: 2nd half of year (Peralta) did more agility drills and it helped. Going to do more.

DD said Peralta did more agility drills in 2nd half of season. On replacing: "I don't know where the OBVIOUS alternative is."

Dombrowski: Peralta didn't have anywhere near the opportunities to drive in runs as he did the year before.

DD: Infante would have missed 4-6 weeks with broken hand. No other real injury issues with Tigers, no surgeries needed.

DD on Rondon: "I'm not anointing him. We still have Benoit, we still have Dotel." Also mentions Alburquerque, Villlarreal.

Dombrowski: I had one organization tell me that best stuff of anybody was Villarreal. He didn't throw strikes consistently.

Dave Dombrowski says the Tigers will not pursue Delmon Young. See him as a DH.

Dave Dombrowski said the Tigers will not pursue signing Jose Valverde.

Dombrowski not ruling out grabbing a closer late in offseason depending on market, but says it would really have to be the right fit.
Based on the way DD answered the question about adding a "place-holder" closer, it's not a priority high on the list, but it could happen.

Dombrowski on Rondon: "If I had a choice of any young closer in baseball to give an opportunity to, it would be him."

DD on meeting. with Leyland, whether it was a formality: "It took about 2 minutes. I don't even think it took that long."

DD did not agree that defense was all that bad this season. Shit, denial and PR.

Dombrowski: (Minor league) Very positive year. We have some good young prospects. 2 contributed this year.

Dombrowski: Our middle infielders are a little further away.

Dombrowski: (Castellanos) is playing left field in Arizona Fall League. Could he go back to 3B? Yes but we look at more outfield.

DD on Castellanos: "Could he go back to 3B? I guess he could. When you look at our immediate needs, it's outfield."
Dombrowski: We think (Castellanos) bat will play up here pretty quickly. He's a good hitter.

Dombrowski: 1 of biggest changes is the social media aspect. You would not believe the letters I get on daily basis.
Dombrowski: For the people that don't like Jim Leyland, if people knew how hard this guy worked, they'd love him.

DD on deadline trade success: "I don't think we'd have been playing in the World Series without Sanchez and Infante on our team."

Dombrowski on Verlander: "We want him to be with us for an extended period beyond the two years left on contract."

DD on Verlander: "You want guys like that to be with you for a long time." Would not commit to whether they'd do anything this offseason.

Now the Tigers will go into stealth mode and you will not know what they are doing until just before it happens.

Bringing back Jim Leyland as Detroit Tigers manager is a prudent move.
from the detnews

lynn the shithead henning,
had Leyland gone as many times as the Tigers should sign him,

on Lamont: But the idea that other third base coaches don't make errors, or that percentages of good and bad calls would be greatly altered with another guy in the box at third - that's an illusion.
an illusion?? wtf is he smoking.

and defends lloyd,

Leyland: There will be a shuffling of coaching responsibilities, they know, but not prepared to announce yet.

Leyland confirms they'll have one change of roles on Tigers coaching staff. Not ready to announce yet.

Leyland did confirm that the Tigers would "rearrange the furniture" in the coaching staff, re: responsibilities.

Leyland on Tigers' coaching staff: "We're going to rearrange one piece of our furniture and it has nothing to do with anybody's results."

Leyland said the coaches had been informed of the switch(es), but they did not want to announce it at this time. Geno asked for them to wait until he finished stuffing his face.

Leyland, on if VMart will be himself: "That?s a great a question. That to me is the question of the day. Everybody is just assuming"

JL: "We get the Victor back we had 2 years ago, we?re really good. But who knows that? Guy hasn't seen a live pitch in ... quite a while."
