very good news out of the EYBL (elite youth basketball league), like the world series of AAU

Deyonta Davis absolutely destroyed the first weekend of the Nike EYBL this weekend playing for Spiece Indy. He avereged 18.7 PPG (77% FG), 7.8 RPG, 1.7 BPG in 4 games and they went undefeated. He is playing along side our other "plan A" target Caleb Swainigan and they are just destroying teams. It was HUGE getting Deyonta's verbal before he blew up. He is a monster. By the end of the summer he could be our most highly regarded recruit in a long time.

From a CBS Sports article by Jeff Borzello...."Ten Thoughts From Nike EYBL Sacramento"
"5. Deyonta Davis is going to skyrocket up the rankings. Heading into the weekend, the 6-foot-8 Davis was ranked outside the top 100 in the 247Sports Composite. He plays at a small high school in Michigan, and despite being committed to Michigan State, not many people had watched him. Well, he's going to move into everyone's top 100 ? the only question is how high will he go? One college coach watching him says he should be a top 10 prospect, while another said he's undoubtedly a top 50 prospect. Davis can do everything offensively, knocking down perimeter shots and finishing at the rim, while running the floor like a gazelle."

this article references the 247 rankings, he was debuted at 42 on rivals 2015

Sure looked like a McD's All American to me. Kid is really smooth for someone his size.

Just curious - why is he playing for an AAU team out of Indy and not a Michigan squad?

not a lot of great aau programs on the west side of the state, it's just as easy to get to indy vs detroit to play for the family or one nation

it's also good that he's playing with Caleb Swanigan, another MSU target

http://sports.yahoo.com/indiana/basketball/recruiting/player-Caleb-Swanigan-144598

sounds like a MSU vs Indiana battle which would be great given the state of the hoosiers right now

some quotes from the rivals indiana site

was talking about schools from which he's been feeling the most love
and he said, "When you live in Indiana, it's always hard to turn down
the Hoosiers."

As for who is showing him the most love? He listed Michigan State, Indiana and Pittsburgh.

"It's been fun," Swanigan said of playing alongside Davis. "What he does
well I don't do as well and what I do well he doesn't do as well."

Davis is hoping to form a long-standing partnership, though Swanigan indicated his recruitment is still wide open.

"I love it," Davis said. "I'm going to keep working on him and hopefully I can get him to go to Michigan State."

As sbee said, the AAU teams over here on the west side are pretty weak. He played for the ACB Hoops last year. Mainly future GLIAC and some MAC type players on those squads. It's either play on a subpar team here or play for one of the east side teams like The Family and watch all the guards and wings take 90% of the shots. Davis and his HS teammate, Joeviair Kennedy, chose to play out of Indy instead.

a few more tweets

Evan Daniels tweet:

Have been very impressed with MSU commit Deyonta Davis. 6-8 PF with
good athleticism & mobility. Has hit multiple jumpers too.

Michigan St 6-9 commit Deyonta Davis playing well. Rebounding, good
bounce, running floor, active, long arms, scoring going to the rim.

MichiganSt commit Deyonta Davis stood out at EYBL event. 103rd-ranked player in class of '15 averaged 18.7 PPG (77% FG), 7.8 RPG, 1.7 BPG.

Highlights from Spiece Run N Slam. Still a little bit raw, but he is super athletic and has the potential to be an absolute monster if he can add muscle. Post moves are good enough to score at high school level but will definitely need to progress to score with his back to basket at college. Worst case scenario he is an energy guy who is a good rebounder and shot blocker and gets you garbage and transition baskets. Best case scenario he has the opportunity to leave early as a lottery pick.

Edit: Can't figure out how to post this correctly. Seems to automatically be creating a link and not doing it properly. Google "Deyonta Davis Run N Slam" and they will pop up if that link/video isn't working.
