Do Tigers take a run at Justin Verlander after surgery?

Do the Tigers take a chance on him and sign him at the end of 2021? This surgery has been very successful and even though he is 37, this surgery can extend his career another 3-4 maybe 5 years. He may not be his old self when he returns, but a Justin Verlander at 75% is better than anything else this team has now. I'm just figuring, he might come cheap and it?s not like he didn't want to finish his career in Detroit.

I think he got married to some chick who?s from back there, or something.

This is my offer. 10M for a 39-year-old reliever has been tried by the Tigers and it did not work our so ?good.? Sentiment aside.
I don't think he wants to be a RP. Tommy John isn't like it used to be.

If he TRULY wants to pitch that long he's likely gunning for 300 Wins. So he probably doesnt have much interest in being a reliever.....unless his arm doesn't react well to the surgery.

Likely too costly for the Tigers anyway.

I don't think he has a chance in hell to get to 300. He needs 74 wins and he will be 39 when he starts his next game.

Verlander is one of the few, if not the only player that Chris Ilitch might open up his checkbook for...but not for more than one year, and only IF an effective vaccine or vaccines has/have been developed and enough produced for the public @ large. So that the gates have opened and tix being sold for the '22 season.

Verlander being a SP would mean only being a draw on the dates that his turn in the roto come up...but if he was to convert and become an effective and successful closer, then Ilitch would be more likely to sign him to a pricey multi-year extension.

If other ballclubs offer JV a multi-year contract as a SP, then I don't see Chrissy remaining as one of the bidders, as he unlike his late dad doesn't have an emotional or nostalgic bent for his ballclub. 114 losses last season didn't embarrass him like 119 did to his daddy after '03.

They need more than JV. they need a boat load of hitters and pitchers. Todays score of 7-6 shows no improvement in fact, regression is sinking in like a rock in water.

Nolan Ryan got 83 wins after turning 39. A good offensive team he might have a chance.

Right.

Basically, the Tigers need to replace everyone they have with the Dodgers.
