Does Jim Leyland hate me?

He really knows how to irk me with his lineups and choice of relief pitchers. I mean yesterday against the White Sox he brings in Schlereth, who is absolutely terrible, in one of the most influential parts of the game and he once again sucks. Then he decides who he is going to bring up and send down to make room for Adam Wilk he sends down Villareal, who is much better than Schlereth, but decides to keep Schlereth on the 25 man roster. Toss in the fact that he has Elmon Young in LF over Andy Dirks, probably one of our best defenders, is just criminal. Lastly to top it all off instead of cutting Inge, he brings him up to play 2B over not only Santiago, but Raburn as well and send down Danny Worth who is 5x the player Inge is and can play more positions. Am I the only one irked by his moves or does everyone feel this way?

Leyland does not decide the roster. That is the job of the GM. Sure, Leyland has input, but the final say is DD. And they all work for Mike I. Who, at least in Inge's case, might have a lot to do with him still being here.

I don't think so. I can't see MI say go get Prince but keep Inge. Contradicts each other.

Here's the thing Mitch, You have to understand how serious it was when DD and JL DFA'd a 10/5 guy (Inge). That's the baseball equivalent of firing a guy with 20 years on the job.

Now I'm sure DD did not make the decision lightly, but I am positive that he intended it to be final. When you cut ties with a guy like that, you only want to do it once.

The fact that Inge managed to get back on the team last year, and even more obvious, this year, when it was clear we had at least 2 players better suited to the role Inge was awarded, that it was some kind of an edict from higher up than DD, and that's only 1 person.

The fact that Ilitch wanted Prince actually does not contradict him wanting Inge, because Ilitch always wanted Prince, because of his history with the Tigers, and nobody has more history right now than Inge.

So, while there is no definitive proof I can offer, I'm convinced Brandon is not in the unemployment line because Mike I want's Brandon to be a Tiger if we win a WS.

You might be right but I think they're compounding the situation. Its like keeping a guy with 20 years on the job that is stealing from ya.

as far as the Schlereth vs Villareal thing, they both suck and id rather them both be in toledo.

Yeah that's true, but I'd rather have Villareal than Schlereth. I don't understand why Leyland brings in his worst reliever in the most important situations though.

Leyland controls the lineup though, along with the pitchers that are used and there is no justified reason to have Delmon Young playing LF over Andy Dirks while Andy DHs.

Schlereth could lose his job when Fister returns. Adam may go to our bullpen and eventually start for Smyly, who may continue to pitch well, but need occassional skips in the rotation. Drew must keep his total innings-pitched down.

I believe Schlereth is threading water right now.
Balester needs to watch his step. Or instead he may get traded in a multi-players deal.

I agree but they are doing it so DY won't pout... It is his contract year and he has made it clear he does not like to DH... I know I would tell him to shut the fuck up and hit but Smokes is not like that.. DY should DH every game verses RHP and only see the field once in a while... We have a perfect platoon right now with Dirks and Raburn in left, and Santiago and Worth at second but DD and the Tigers want to give Cringe another chance to bat .150 from a few months and use the absolute worst second baseman Raburn in the infield.. The line-up makes no sense... I hope he at least platoons Inge/Santiago..

Ironically, Dirks wasn't that good in the field in 2011. We just don't have options for left. Not good ones.

Not saying its going to turn around with Schlereth but smetimes you have to see how a guy is going to respond to his bad play. Plus JL is putting him in situations to see if he a capable of getting outs. It would be nice to have two LHP coming out of the pen. So far it isn't working but maybe he will get into a groove like Lyon did a few years ago and Benoit did last year.

Sure there is!....

Free agency approaching for Delmon and the Tigers are keeping their options open. Delmon is worth more as a LF'er in a June/July trade - than as a DH.

Secondly, Delmon has not cost us a game yet in LF this season. Like any regular-use outfielder, he needs to burn thru a certain number of errors-that-lead-to-losses first, prior to removal from the outfield.

BTW... that was a pretty nice Delmon catch early in the game yesterday.... running to the foul line near the stands.

Nobody ever mentions his nice catches.

Lastly, I wish we had better out there. But what he's accomplished with his bat as a Tiger, needs to be factored-into his playing time out there. Plus, he's asked Leyland NOT to DH. The Tigers prefer a happy pending free agent, should they be trying to offer him another year or two to stay in Detroit.

Stranger things have happened with our organization. They sometimes keep players we least expect.

I would understand Leyland's thoughts if Delmon could hit more than once or twice every couple of days but he swings at junk all the time and misses meat fastballs. If I was manager I would tell him to shut the fuck up and play DH because he is hurting his clubs chances to win, baseball is a team sport not an individual sport.

As for the platooning, I agree it makes no sense. Raburn is a below average defender, so lets put him at one of the hardest spots in the field.

SMH, Jim needs to stop worrying about hurting shitty players' feelings and make it so we can win some games.

This is the only way I can respond, even though you are being sarcastic. http://i.imgur.com/noRJf.gif

He doesn't just hate you. He hates us all.

Bringing in Schlereth to foul things up AGAIN was just stupid. Both games you could tell those tack on runs just let the air out of the tires of the rest of the guys as they showed no real fight to come back. So it looks like Schlereth is Jimmy's boyfriend now a la Jason Grilli in '06 and '07.

Then putting in Limp-Stick Laird in the pinch hit in the 9th when you need BASERUNNERS? Come on, Jimmy...
