Watch the Lions blow out the Visqueens, b/c their draft slot is the only thing left that they can fuck up.

Skol Vikings. I want Sammy Watkins more than a meaningless W.

And then later here Shorts talk about this being a successful season. Followed by LKP 2014 15-1 SB prediction and Tonys saying Stafford is a top 3 QB.

Naaaah, im just no dummie when it comes to football. Stafford is the franchise. I know it, the experts know it, guys like Kurt Warner know it. You guys dont .... thats your deal. He's not being replaced, theyre not bringing in another QB to push him and theyre not drafting a kid to push him. He's put up retarded numbers basically with one superstar (Calvin) on offense. He's the real deal, he just needs some tweaking on his game physically and more so mentally. 25 years old....skys the limit.

While I do think Stafford is the future and that it's too early to give up on him (contract doesn't allow the Lions to give up anyways), I still believe he looked like dog shit during the 2nd half of this season. I hope he works on his touch passes in the off season, he can't be missing as many of those throws as he does.

If you think about it, he really has not done anything. The one thing he has on his side is as mentioned, his age. He needs to be coached up big time as the talent is there. He has 108 TD's and 73 INT's in his career which is not a good thing, not to mention 15 fumbles. That is a lot of chance taking. To get to the next level that ratio needs to be at 3 to 1 or better. People are enamored with his arm strength which is another way of saying potential. Getting the right coach in there may prove to be that missing piece providing he is open to instruction.

Stafford is not elite so drafting another QB is not the worst decision. Trading him to move up in the draft is not unthinkable but improbable based on his contract. I could care less if they went in another direction providing the new quality G.M. or quality Head coach made that decision. I don't trust the current clowns we have in place, it's more pathetic with each passing year. More of the same and never enough.

We have a two year window to win with stafford...salary cap issues with 2nd contracts with the likes of fairly, reiff, etc escalting salaries with bush, houston, quinn, etc and the big 3 contracts will come to a head after 2015

He is the franchise. He will get better. He's young, can make all the throws, spreads the ball and seems willing and able to learn.

He needs help in areas, though. Footwork can be terrible. Still locks on to WR at times. Needs to dump down more often. However, none of things are something that can't be significantly improved quickly.

His contract is too high, but you really can't blame that on Mayhew. The old rookie scale fucked us, and it's going to cost us Suh eventually. You just can't have 3 guys making that high of a % of the team cap......and they aren't dumping CJ or Stafford.

Going forward, Stafford is part of the solution, not the problem. The Lions have a LOT of good pieces in place to win now. They need the right coach and scheme. Easier said than done, I realize, but this is a team that can win 10 right now and 12 with another good draft.

It won't cost us Suh. Suh extension lowers his cap number actually. Burleson cut or takes huge pay cut. That's about 8 million or more in room right there from those two moves. And Delmas won't play on a 8 million cap number either.

Plus
Stafford's cap number in 2014 and 2015 will both be lower than his cap number this season.

They need to be smart with Suh's contract for the 2015 cap number though with Calvin rising big time in 2015.

I understand Suh's can be adjusted, but eventually things come to a head......and you can't consistently field a competitive team with 6% of your roster making 45% of your cap number.....adjustment or not.

If you are looking for 1 and done type of seasons.....sure.....but eventually they would have to blow it up and have a Ravens type fire sale.

If the Lions want to end the revolving door of horrid backups and barely NFL caliber players having to make significant contributions......the madness of extension after extension will have to end.

That said, they are on their way to doing that. The rookie scale, better drafting and FINALLY finding diamond in the rough type players like Waddle, Fauria and Bell will help.

Yes they can have alot of money towards Calvin, Suh and Stafford. With good drafts in 2014 and 2015 similar to 2013, yes they can. 2014 and 2015 are not as bad as everyone thinks. 2016 is when Staffords guaranteed money all ends. We'll come down that road for a new deal if he gets his head out of his ass.

The Lions cap is under control. Suh extension, Burleson pay cut and do something with Delmas deal and we'll have some wiggle room. Don't see us being active players in free agency anyway. Maybe one big name. We'll see how much roster turnover there will be. Outside WR2/WR3,TE 1, Center, secondary are your best bets. QB,RB,WR1, rest of Olne are set. Dline set, two LBs set, maybe new coach doesn't like Palmer at LB but he has special team value.

He is by default and by the amount of money he makes. I never said he was being replaced but he needs to improve big time. There are so many guys I'd take over him right now.

I think we get caught up restating what we hear analysts say too much....."he can make all the throws" is a typical analyst talking point when it comes to Stafford. But can he really?....cause he very rarely does. You don't see the guy complete passes with very much consistency down the field....ever. Hes near the bottom in comp % in throw over 20 yds.

"making all the throws" also means you know when to take some off to complete a pass....which he doesn't do.

"making all the throws" means you lead your back out of the backfield so he can run and make a play...which he doesn't do.

So while I agree he has a cannon....he fucking sucks at "making all the throws."

Nick Foles 28 TDs to 2!!!! INTs look pretty good right now.

I hope your right, I'd hate to see Suh leave. He may be a tard at times but he is the leader of the defense.

From the players perspective if Suh WANTS to leave this joke of a team then he just takes his 21 mil next year and were forced to cut him the following year so he doesn't make 28 mil on a franchise tag.
