Get StartedFairley here through 2015 season if lions want. There is a 5th year team option for fairley
I'm not as familiar with cap numbers like others but it seems the cap numbers goes up on extensions. Why not wait until the contract runs out and then sign to a fair offer.
If we have the room that's what should be done. I don't think we will have the room though so we will have to extend which pushes that money into the next contract cap hit and we repeat the process.
I hate that. Maybe we need to tank for a year. Not like we're not in a 56 year tank now.

Bidding war for Suh on the open market. Yeah that won't make him cheaper.
An extension will lower his cap number and gradually increase over time (like most NFL contractS). Trade costs 19 million still due to the previous two restructures. He won't play on his 21 million cap number.
The best and only way to get his number lower is through an extension. Which is the smart move. He will have 9.8 million and 9.7 million counting against his 2014 and 2015 number due to the restructures. Therefore they need to give him a good signing bonus spread over 5 years and low base salary that escalates as the guranteed money goes away.
Ok..we sign him for 5 yrs...$65m.......ford will have fork over $20 SB
True but we only care about the cap number. Ford has plenty of money to fork. That 20 million over 5 years is 4 million per year on the cap number. So 4 million plus 9.8 million(restructured money) plus whatever his base salary (which can be low since he got a big signing bonus). Similar to Calvin's deal, 1 million base first year. That is a 14.8 million cap number instead of 21 million. Short term cap relief plus we keep Suh long term.
