Draft Thread 2020

Lions have taken a tight ens in round 1 once every five years. 2009, 2014, 2019.

We have until 2024 to worry about it again

So 3 in ten years? How many have done that. And ours were 20, 10, 8. Ridiculous.

They needed a tight end every time though
Pettigrew was from roy williams fleecing so it was an extra first

Both those tight ends go within a few picks in first of lions dont take them. Not like they would have been 2nd rounders if lions didnt take them

2 fail and a third is about to.

The Tight End position is evolving though, and becoming more of a focal point in the modern offense than it's really ever been.

If you don't have an elite tight end, you want one. No other team has taken 3 first rounder in the time we have, but I don't think it's going to continue to be as uncommon as all that.

The running back is becoming more of a 3rd to 5th round position while the tight end is transforming into a first round position. It's just the way of the modern NFL.

But the problem is we never use the TE as much. When we had Ebron he was hardly used in the red zone. Look at what he did in Indy. He's not a better player they just used him more effectively. So we get Hockenson and again he's not used very much. 1st game and then nothing. And lastly you don't use top ten picks to get 'em.

There have been 10 TE's drafted in the first round in the past 11 drafts. The Lions have drafted 3 of them.

There have only been 2 TE's drafted in the top 10 of those drafts...and the Lions have both.
