Duke

Time to close the fing deal. NC or bust. No more falling short at the end....

Aside from the 2 national title wins, is it fair of me to think that this is the best win in program history? Obviously I have some recency bias but this just feels so much better than any of the other wins given how favored Duke was

That's a tough one. Taking down Duke and Kentucky back to back in 2005 is right up there (the only regional final weekend that tops this one overall), except I kind of felt like after that they were going to have a hard time with UNC, which proved to be correct.

Beating Kentucky in 1999 was pretty Sweet and that team was similarly dismissed (even though we were the 1 seed). Louisville and UConn in 2009 are right there too except those games actually ended up lacking any drama.

Given Izzo's record vs Coach K and just how this team doesn't seem to match up on paper but continues to get it done, I think puts this one a little above some of those others.

I?d say so. I?m 40.....best non national title win in my life. The Korie Lucious 3 was pretty big....but because it was Duke.....I?d say so.

I'm gonna say no but mainly because i dont want to give dook that kind of credit. i think that kentucky game w/ the crazy finish or KU game in '09 are definitely up there with this one.

Coupled with there being no 5 Star guys out there (which includes JL) and losing Ward for 5 games. Ive had the attitude of "as long as Duke doesnt win it im satisfied" This win pays extra dividends in pleasure.

Crazy how different the college game is vs the NBA. I'd say the three top defensive teams imo(TT, Virginia and MSU) are left and Auburn isn't far behind either.

In terms of excitement that entire 2005 weekend is simply the best. The UK game that year was unreal. In terms of the opponent/circumstances/team (as spartan23 mentioned) I think this one still trumps them all. You beat 2 top 5 draft picks, reddish might go top 10 (although he doesn?t impress me an ounce and I think he?ll be a bust if he goes pro already).

The Maryland and Kansas ones were great games, but since they weren?t ones to punch final four tickets I just can?t rank it above this one in my mind. The UConn one was incredible though, I can tell you Ford Ford was deafening. The feeling of euphoria afterwards was incredible.

2-3 I think

Lost in 99 FF
Lost in 13 SS
Lost in 15 FF

thats what i thought but i just read someone's FB thread that said 2&11 overall and 2&7 in the tourney. that seems way too high to me - i would think most were in the B1G/acc challenge.

Nice to see the committee absolutely fuck themselves by seeding MSU poorly.

Great win for MSU. Izzo with that Coach K monkey off his back. Was weird but easy to root for MSU in this one.

the UConn game in '09 was pretty awesome too. all those games where nobody gave us a chance - right up until we ran into UNC...

I love you man!!! But not as much as I love Kenny Fucking Goins!!!!!

ha - dude hit an amazing shot and you can't take that away from him but i still can't stand him. if he hadn't sucked for 39 minutes and 25 seconds, that game might not have been so close at the end.

dook did an amzing job shutting down the perimeter - goins was the only guy that got many looks, they were on McQuaid all night. thats what scares me about Texas Tech having supposedly the best defense in the country althouth i havent seen them play and guys on the michigan board were saying they got open looks from 3 w/o much trouble, they just had a crappy shooting night that kept it from being a closer game.

Props to you for pulling for MSU. I can?t say I do the same when Duke plays you guys. I feel like I need a shower when that occurs, I feel gross rooting for them.

This is our best chance to win it all since the Butler Final 4 loss. I mean that so many of our Final 4s we ran up against a juggernaut team that just simply wasn't going to lose to anyone.

Texas tech is really good, and so is UVA, but no one is clearly better than MSU right now. This isn't like being in a Final 4 with that 2009 NC team or that 2015 Duke team.

I'd put UVA and us as the co favorites. So I'd say we have about a 30-35% chance of winning it all.

Texas Tech's defense is definitely legit (they made Buffalo in particular look high schoolish on offense), but their philosophy seems to be pack the paint and not press on 3-point shooters as much. They have one star offensive player in Culver, but a couple other guys who hit clutch shots in Mooney and Moretti. I'll be curious to watch Winston attack them, as he is great at finding ways into the paint. Should be a great game.

I'm still pissed about that phantom out of bounds call on Green where not only did not come close to touching the ball, he got hammered in the head so hard he looked concussed and no foul was called.

I think Winston is the best player still in the tournament and can put the team on his shoulders if he needs to. And if everyone is playing at/near their best, they'll beat any of these teams.

if that's the case and they leave us open on the perimeter I like our chances as long as 2 of the 3 wing men are hitting at a normal rate (Winston, McQuaid and cough, cough, Goins). Of course, Tillman and Ward need to hold their own on the boards but if they're packing the paint, second chance opportunities will be tougher to come by.
