I didn't get to see any of the game except the 8th and 9th innings and only got to listen to it from the 6th on last night, but I heard earlier on 97.1 that Young was hurt last night. Haven't really seen anything on this, but the dipshit radio guys were talking like he'd be out for a while. What happened?

Get ready for Ryan ( I catch pop flys in the 9th inning with one hand) Raburn. I could not believe how lazy he went after that pop fly in the 9th.... I mean one hand Ryan... are you kidding me...

I'd play Kelly in LF and Maggs in RF if DY is out. Raburn is a butcher in the field.

Thought I was the only one. lol

No way you play Kelly against Wilson, Raburn in LF with Santiago at 2b, Inge at 3b and Mags in RF. The question is does Betemit get back to 3b against RHP or use Mags in RF and Kelly at 3b? If Delmon is hurt bad enough, Raburn or Dirks in LF vs RHP?

I agree Mitch it was just the Raburn haters getting on him about nothing, he didn't have any trouble at all with that fly ball last nite.

I guess you missed the can of corn he dropped just a few weeks ago in right field.... Ryan Is a hatchet in the field and there is no debate about that...

I really hope Delmon just minorly tweaked his oblique and is able to play in the ALCS, seems like the team finds their mojo with him in the lineup. Also can't really imagine having to bear to watch Raburn the butcher in the outfield all series.

Anyone else catch the TBS announcer saying that putting Rayburn in for Young was a "defensive upgrade"?

Yes. Unfortunately, as bad as Rayburn is Young is just as bad.

I forget that you guys are the experts on Raburn, but defensive stats show that you are wrong, he isn't that bad of an OF and he has a real good arm and is an upgrade over DY, sorry

I will try to answer this as best as I can, and even then it might not be good enough.
Yes most all players catch with one hand in the outfield, it was just how Raburn, how do I explain, maybe, his lack of intensity to the situation, and just holding the glove hand out there 'loosely' made me think he played it non-chalantly, given the importance of it all. I think this is how he plays anyways, which is maybe a reason why he screws up, some what we call, easy plays in the outfield. Maybe, and going to fangraphs for their UZR rankings, he isn't as bad defensively as we are led to believe in the outfield, but he is in the infield.
There are just so many players who are not fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game. Am I, or are we, looking for more perfect and complete players? to a degree yes, although it is damn near impossible.
I just wish we had a few more players that were closer to being two way, that is offensive and defensive, more complete if you will.
Corner outfield defense is an issue overall. Each player that has played in left and right has some deficiency out there.
It is all about having 3 out innings, not 4 out innings due to not making a play that should be made.
and yes, I agree that we are harder on this guy than maybe we should be, but it is his bi-polar splits that cause it, with his first half and into the second half before he starts hitting.
I don't know if any will agree with this, it is just from watching our own great rightfielder Kaline from 'very early' in his career that I scrutinize outfield defense, maybe just a bit more than I should. Al always said he would have hitting slumps, but you can't or shouldn't have fielding slumps or make bad plays out there if you practice as game situations, something to that effect.

It is easier to say that Rayburn is a poor outfielder. I didn't grow up seeing Kaline, and I can see that he does not get good a jump on the ball and he misjudges a lot of plays. I don't care if he catches one handed, but I have seen several balls bounce out of his glove. It appears to be a lack of concentration. I think that his problem is that players hit their way to the major leagues, they do not get there by playing a good left field. I think that these guys that were late rookies (27, 28 years old) concentrate so much on hitting that their fielding suffers. Fielding practice looks like a thing of the past.

I think that Dirks looks much better than Rayburn, Young, Bosch, and Magglio in the field myself. I would like to see him get a little time out there.
