Election Aftermath

OK, where are those executive orders? Also, Southern District of New York, what are they doing?

Biden got up early...he's probably taking a nap. After his nap, he will go to dinner at a reasonable time (4PM) then get to signing the executive orders.

Nothing's changing in Portland
Protesters in the Pacific Northwest smashed windows at a Democratic Party headquarters, marched through the streets and burned an American flag on Wednesday in a strident challenge by antifascist and racial-justice protesters to the new administration of President Biden, whose promised reforms, they declared, ?won?t save us.?In Portland, Ore., lines of federal agents in camouflage ? now working under the Biden administration ? blanketed streets with tear gas and unleashed volleys of welt-inducing pepper balls as they confronted a crowd that gathered outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building near downtown. Some in the crowd later burned a Biden-for-President flag in the street.

"Tear Gas" and "Protesters" seem incongruent. Would that these "protesters" assemble a cohesive message, abandon the violence and exhibit some measure of prudence, and I'd listen to them.

Otherwise, lump them in with all the other "domestic terrorists" out there.
They sound like anarchists. Same as the extremely socialist political types, I realize their radicalization is a reaction to a real problem, but they are wildly over-correcting and impeding the effort to fix anything. Police need impartial accountability, not dissolution. Our economy requires regulation that isn't driven by the biggest players in each industry, not a shift towards socialism.

These people are wrong, but rather than push in the direction opposite of what they want, we should recognize that some people think we'd be better off without police because we let things get so bad. Some people think socialism is good because we let our capitalism get so broken.

Nothing? They're no longer mostly peaceful protestors being assaulted and fired on with tear gas and pepper balls without cause by an unprovoked, brutally oppressive police force. Seems like a pretty big change.

I wonder what you think the word "mostly" means...on 2nd thought, no I don't.

I'll tell you anyway. I think the words "mostly peaceful" not being in there means Trump is no longer President.

In other news, Trump no longer being president will lead to a sudden and substantial drop in deaths caused by Covid.

Unfortunately, that drop will be balanced out by deaths related to obesity, hypertension, diabetes, pneumonia and influenza returning to their previous normal levels.

Hopefully, suicide will return to lower than the previous normal level.

Apparently the WHO issued revised guidance on PCR testing due to the high rate of false positives - if this is true, we should see the number of cases drop. way to go Joe Biden!

you would think they would have the testing down by now. My son and his fiance live together. A few months ago they both had classic COVID symptoms. They both got tested and one came back positive and one negative. Either they both had it, or neither had it.

I'm seeing some people interpret this update from the WHO, coincidentally on the day of Biden's inauguration, as them intentionally using standards that would result in higher infection rates and more cases and the decrease in cases will be attributed to the new administration's better handling of the disease - or as an indication that Trump mishandled it. I tried reading the WHO piece but I can't tell - it's not written for non-scientists and not at all obvious to a layman that the change will result in a big drop in cases.
