Election Aftermath

I'm actually with Tigershithead on this one.

It was a grave existential threat to our democracy... so we called out 1/20th of the number of cops we'd have had on hand if this had been a BLM protest or anti-war protest, and OH by the way, we'll have hearings on it in a year and a half.

okay...

You either support our Democracy, or you support Trump, you cannot support both.

We don't have a democracy, it's a constitutional republic and Trump stood for the constitution way more than any of these clowns bloviating about the mostly peaceful insurrection that Trump is no more responsible for than Bernie Sanders is for Steve Scalise almost getting murdered. If there was anything to this, somebody would be charged with something more serious than trespassing. The capital police were waiving people into the capital and a bunch of idiots ran in, broke some stuff and posed for pictures. this whole thing is a circus sideshow.

oh wow, we actually live in a constitutional republic? that changes everything.

It's further evidence of the ignorance of people who think Jan 6 was an insurrection and that Donald Trump was responsible for it. I wasn't thinking of you when I posted that so I didn't bother to explain it in terms you could understand.

What do you expect? Trump was the Republitard gift to the libdems that just keeps on giving. Or that they just keep on milking. Or both.

Conservatives are going to say that it?s all a distraction from the horror show that the Biden administration has been - which it has been - and liberals are going to say that until Republicans nominate a more traditional and normal candidate for POTUS than Trump that Republicans are the greatest threat to the country since forever.

Not sure how the decision making class in this country - the non-partisan moderates - are looking at all this. I do know that everyone who is not a pretty strident partisan Democrat is unimpressed with Biden.

As we all know the party out of the White House almost always historically makes gains during the midterms.

I guess we?ll find out how much or how little the decision makers care or don?t care about what did or didn?t happen on January 6.

That brought a mini-grin to my face, and maybe even a chuckle.

I don't think it will matter - to the Dems and a big chunk of the media, unless the Republicans nomintate one of the Obamas, they will continue to be the greatest threat to our Democracy - and it's probably won't even be close.

Based on TV ratings for the clownshow, it seems like they don't care much.

I hope so that they don?t.

Biden proposing a "gas tax holiday" for 3 months. The federal tax on gasoline is $0.18 per gallon and $0.24 per gallon for diesel. What a stupid idea. It's going to have a very minimal impact at the pump (if any).

I know I won't notice.

And I thought the tax was assessed on the supplier anyways. I know we have a few pro corporate, pro oil people here but nobody really believes that they'll pass that savings along to the customer do they?

I don't know if it's the individual gas stations that pay the tax or the large suppliers...but my guess is if they get rid of the tax the price at the pump won't be impacted very much.

I'm pretty sure the tax is at the retail level so I wouldn't be surprised if some or even all of that "holiday" is reflected in gas prices as they tend to move up and down rather quickly with changes in cost (whether it's crude oil, refining costs or taxes). Retail gas is a pretty competitive business - prices are highly visible to consumers as they drive past, there's often another gas station down the block, if not on the same intersection and consumers (with the possible exception of some NASCAR fans) tend to not be brand loyal when it comes to gas. When you see one seller move lower, others follow quickly.

But the price of gas is up a lot more than $.18/per gallon so it's kind of like putting a band aid on a gun shot wound at this point. Even if you don't drive a Prius, you're not likely to notice a huge difference. For a 16 gallon tank, you'll save $2.88 if the entire tax break is passed on to consumers. People who fill up 4x a month save $11.52 - between the increase in electric bills for running AC in the summer and the sky high grocery bill, it's a drop in the bucket.

What if you took that $.18 a gallon, bought a lottery ticket, and you won the mega millions jackpot?

Do you think you might notice it THEN?

Good point. Maybe I'm just one of the many Americans that think they're just temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

Maybe.

It's therefore prudent for you to push for lower taxes on the income and inherited wealth of the 1%. I mean, once you make it big, you're not going to want to pay taxes. that's just reasonable.

You mean people who aren?t rich WANT to pay taxes and they don?t change their minds unless and until they get rich?

The Gas Tax holiday isn't getting through congress anyway so the discussion on the subject is moot.
