Election Aftermath

unfortunately, by definition the 0.1% only includes... 0.1% of the population.

that's only a few hundred thousand, and that presumably includes kids, wives, and other dependants, i.e. there are not 330,000 people earning 0.1% wages.

While they presumably do improve employment statistics at yacht builders' and marble-tile floorers' firms when they receive windfalls, it's not enough to really "raise the boat" for the other 327,000,000 who are now either facing cuts to government benefits or services in some way to give the 0.1% their tax cut, or paying more themselves in other taxes to make up for it.

Or were you joking? IDK, it's so hard to tell sometimes...

Also, wait ? what?

All week long I have been hearing President Joe Biden bragging about signing into law legislation that will result into a jillions of dollars of new appropriations that will benefit hard working Americans that will be paid for only by the wealthiest of the wealthy in this country.

Didn?t you get the memo?

That?s because yachts and marble floors are only a tiny portion of their wealth - they hoard the rest. That?s the jillions of dollars Joe is going to steal/confiscate and use to create billions of jobs - because government is the real job creator, capitalism is a myth.

Oh.

Well shit.

Is my bubble burst, or what?

EDIT: Also?billions of jobs man?that?s a lotta jobs.

That?s a lot more jobs than I ever thought there could be.

EDIT 2: Also?earlier, weren?t robots getting and doing all the good jobs?

This all is having a lot of fast moving parts.

Former President Donald Trump filed an amended version of his RICO lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, the DNC, and a constellation of other anti-Trump conspirators only weeks before the FBI?s raid of Mar-a-Lago.

https://storage.courtlistener.com/r...d.610157/gov.uscourts.flsd.610157.177.0_1.pdf

Trump?s amended complaint was filed on June 21 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida docket by Trump lawyer Alina Habba.

magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart had recused himself of Trump?s RICO case the day after Trump filed the amended lawsuit ?then 44 days later signed off on the Mar-a-Lago search warrant on Aug. 5.

The FBI raided Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8.

Trump?s amended RICO lawsuit points to a curious codename Clinton and government officials used to describe their subversive plot to create the narrative that then-presidential candidate Trump was colluding with the Russian government to steal the 2016 election: ?Crimson Rhino.?

Things sure have quieted down since the FBI raid to recover all those uber sensitive documents that so egregiously compromised our national security. No leaks, no titillating headlines about what was in the documents, no Adam Shiff repeatedly promising clear and indisputable evidence (that never materialized). I guess we should just be patient - given how tight lipped the DOJ & FBI were during Trump's administration, it's crazy to expect anything to have leaked by now. I'm sure they're just making sure their case is rock solid and air tight before announcing anything.

I agree with your take here. And I think the way these things are managed, with big attention grabbing headlines, quietly walked back, but with persistent "updates" that imply more will come out is - or should be recognized for what they are now: baseless hit pieces to undermine anyone the establishment feels is a threat.

Say... Maybe next time law enforcement is used to knee-cap a leftist candidate / organization, or uses a dubious story to explain why they needed to shoot a black teenager in the back six times, you'll remember this, and won't be so quick to believe them?

When was the last time law enforcement was used to knee-cap a leftist candidate? I thought the DNC handled that on their own.

As for police violence, I'll continue to evaluate it on a case-by-case basis. You should try the same - and be open to admitting when a police shooting is justified, as the overwhelming majority of them are.

I?ll guess is was back in the late 50s or early 60s in the South.

Check that Nixon kinda did that in the early 70s.

He went too far, kinda fucked that shit up for future conservatives.

Cool.

I haven?t been paying attention.

I didn?t even know they went ahead with the prosecution.

I thought there were issues with entrapment, or something.

There were - a couple of them were acquitted but the jury was deadlocked on these two. Apparently the prosecutors were able to find a more sympathetic jury to ignore all the entrapment nonsense. Thank goodness these two evil criminal masterminds have been taken off the streets (or out of the woods or wherever the FBI dug them up from to entrap). The nation, or at least part of the shithole state of Michigan is safer (pending appeals, of course).

Maybe one day these political prisoners can be college professors like Bill Ayers...

Oh well.

I?m not going to miss them.

PMI composite plunged to 45 (below 50 signals contraction) w/ service sector PMI dropping to 44 - lowest levels for both since COVID recession. Inflation is still a problem, wages are up as are borrowing rates with little indication any of those will abate any time soon. July new home sales report was UGLY, falling to lowest level in almost 7 years - there's currently 11 months of inventory on the market. Wow, that turned fast. Good news is lumber prices are crashing 'cuz we're looking to do a major addition to our house.

And Uh oh!, don't look now. The PWC Pulse Survey (survey of businesses) shows 50% of respondents are planning to or are in the process of reducing their overall headcount, even as business leaders remain concerned about hiring and retaining talent. Unemployment insurance claims are up 50% from their lows... Call me crazy, but that strong labor market narrative may be about to die.

Maybe Joe should have held off on taking that victory lap on the economy and for all those jobs he created, or at least spent a little less time arguing about the definition of a recession...

Serious question, if Joe Biden has given us the strongest economy since the post war era, why does he need to use a law intended for 9/11 heroes to declare an emergency to wipe out student loan debt?

Is our economy maybe not as strong as he tells us it is (contradictory to a lot of data) or is he using tax dollars from people who paid their loans or never went to college to buy votes for the upcoming midterms? Could it be both?

He hasn't.

It's not.

He is.

I?m a little surprised.

Only 13% of the population is carrying student loan debt, yet this suggests there is strong support for some form of student loan forgiveness.

I have zero idea why anyone who isn?t caring student loan debt would be in favor of this.

See some people have this thing called "empathy" and/or another thing called "altruism" whereby they can support good things for other people even if it doesn't directly benefit them.

But also, my parents, for example, would want their kids to get loan forgiveness, even though they don't carry any debt from their college years. or spouses, or siblings would want something better for their relations.

That 13% figure seems like an undercount to me anyway.

I think it could be a combination of several things.

Empathy as michchamp put it. Most people know someone struggling with student debt for one reason or another.

We're so used to bailouts and subsidies in this country, it may be refreshing for some to see it happen to 'normal' people instead of the oil industry, automobile industry, politicians, banks, etc.

A lot of it I suspect is just people toeing the party line. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will benefit from this that would still tell Democrats to fuck off and vice versa for Democrats that have no use for it still supporting it as you mentioned.

People also like 'free' shit. That's truly a bipartisan opinion.

It's also pretty fucked up for anyone who went to college debt-free (say before the mid 80's) or close to it, because it was better subsidized by our government to call this a handout or complain about it.

And I'm willing to be a lot of these "takers" or "parasites" getting a "handout" easily paid back that $10K and much more than that amount in interest already.

also everyone bitching about this "handout," but not all the written off PPP loans, Pentagon waste, TARP bailout funds, etc. is a complete dumbfuck who deserves to die in a fire.
