Election Aftermath

They did come down to $3.70ish but that's a joke considering that's more than any yearly average in the past decade.

Summer is peak driving season so it?s unusual to see prices come down this time of year. Haven?t followed it as closely as I used to but earlier (prob mid summer break) I read that the reversal in prices had more to do with demand destruction, people driving less due to the higher prices than the releasing of reserves. Didn?t dig into at the time and haven?t heard any explanations since then. There should be data on summer miles driven soon if not already.

Joementum...second poll in month shows majority of Dems don't want Joe to run in 2024. Different polls but was 53% in an August poll, now 56% in this one from September.

From August 10th:

Uh Oh Republicans, Inflation has peaked and is coming down.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/july-inflation-data-cpi-august-10-123330998.html

So let me guess, we'll go back to the Presidents don't really have an effect on inflation reality right? Supply chains sorted themselves out and energy prices are falling, good news. Markets responding accordingly.

Oops...this has not aged well. Inflation remains stubbornly high. The bear market rally (also known as a 'dead cat bounce') peaked six days later and since then the S&P is down 17% while the NASDAQ is down 21%. We're less than 2% away from testing the lows from June 16.

sure been kinda quiet lately, Johnny. Allow me to fill in for you - turns out inflation has NOT peaked as I mentioned before w/ the 8.3% print for August.

In addition, after dropping this summer (due to reduced demand from outrageous prices, during what is normally the busiest driving time of the year) gas prices have quietly risen for 31 days and counting hitting NEW highs in several jurisdictions with some in California paying over $6.5/gallon. I say quietly, because oddly, there's barely a peep about this in the popular press - strange for them not to be covering the inflation story that's clearly not peaked or coming down. I wonder if it has something to do with them running cover for Dems in the election that's just a month away...nah, couldn't be

One thing you seem to have gotten right - markets seem to be responding accordingly as we made a new low at the end of September and are heading back toward it after a misguided dead cat bounce to start October.

come on chicken little. Didn't you hear about the Inflation Reduction Act? Everything will be fine:tup::lmao:

Hey Johnny, didn't you also say Biden improved our standing internationally? Remember the fist bump w/ the Saudi crown prince when he went there begging for more oil production (instead of increasing production of better, cleaner oil domestically)? You may have heard OPEC+, which is basically run by the Saudis, met recently and decided to do the opposite. No doubt they're having a good laugh at Biden - probably because of our increased standing in the world thanks to him.

It should probably also be pointed out that Trump tried to rebuild the SPR at $24/barrel but was denied by a Democrat Congress - they were recently about to give Biden the green light to replace the oil he sold off to China at $84/barrel. Now we'll likely have to put those plans on hold and release more of the SPR. This administration is a clown show.

Biden caught in a hot mic in Florida ?no one fu*** with a Biden!?

I just think it's cool Putin invites the Crown Prince over to his little bunker. Very groovy.

Way to double post (stupid) memes, idiot. the mods should ban you again until you figure out how the board works

All you have to do to get me banned is go whining to Kaline again - tell him I hurt your feelings or said something mean about the post office.

I think there was a Tulsi Gabbard thread somewhere but couldn't find, so this thread will have to do...

Good news, Tulsi Gabbard is no longer a Democrat. Leaving the party that has become "an elitist cabal of warmongers."

Yes.

She e-mailed me about this personally.

On the other hand, maybe I?m just on some list.

She's definitely got a future on a conservative platform if she wants. I think she nailed every anti lib buzzword in just one tweet. And she's hot!

she didn't have to do much more than tweet to get them excited, at least judging from the posts in this thread.

I'd only quibble with her comment about warmongers being driven by "wokeness" - cowardly or otherwise. Pretty sure warmongers are driven solely by the size-able profits the "defense" industry makes, but I guess you can't make that point directly... gotta come at them from an angle

I also don't think you can pin "racializing every issue" on the Democratic Party, but we've had that debate about Nixon's (and Reagan's) "southern strategy"... no point in having it again.

Also, doesn't she know it's fashionable on the Right to refer to them as the "Democrat Party?" watch out

Demoncrats is what they should be called.

even if the southern strategy was something one Republican actually did, which it obviously was not, how do you make the leap from there to "racializing every issue" on Republicans? That's one issue, and it's not even real.

butwhatabout Republicans? They do it too...
