Phillies release Dontrelle Willis

Well, I would guess that will have been his very last shot at playing in professional baseball. His severance pay from the Phillies of $139K alone is probably more than my entire income has totaled, since the turn of the century, so Willis should have an extremely comfortable retirement w/o needing to find a job outside of baseball.

The Tigers ballclub having extending him for 3 years, 29M prior to the '08 season, and getting Jack Squat as a result for a return on their money, has virtually ensured that he should, unless he is a real sucker for bad investment advice and/or has a Cecil Fielder-like gambling addiction.

Just goes to show that oddball kooky deliveries might make a great talking point for fans and media but in the end it can screw you up.

If Willis really cares more about playing baseball in the majors, than he does about the $$$, then he should have attempted to make an Ankiel-like transition from SP/RP to DH/1B/OF, as he has hit mid .200s w/some power and has a good arm, obviously.
