Fairley wants to a long term deal with Detroit

Is that true? It seems weird. I mean, how can we owe dead money on a contract that is completed? I thought dead money only resulted from cutting a player that hadn't finished his contract. Because Suh will now have played out his entire contract, anything that we might sign him to next year is completely fresh on the books.

Does anyone have more info on that?

Suh has a player option next year, but restructuring and option bonuses still carry over to 2015 regardless of whether he opts to stay or go.

Cool, I didn't realize that. So if we sign him to a new contract, does the 9 million in dead money get washed into the new contract, or does it stay regardless?

It can get spread over that or even eaten up by a signing bonus.

They played in a 3-4 package a few times against the Saints last week. Noticably with Suh on the edge and Ansah playing MLB. Looked like it threw off Brees a few times.

I Didn't realize. Hybrid works too..

I guess now we need to see if Fairley is even going to walk normal again before talking long term deal with him.

I also saw Prater missed but a lucky delay of game.. Wow.

Basically Suh fell on Fairley and his knee folded under him. If it's not a torn ACL, I have no idea how he avoided that. Wouldn't be surprised if his damned leg broke.

Prater missed, but the whistle had already blown by the time his foot made contact with the ball.. so I chalk that up to normal.

99% of the time the whistle distracts the kicker and they try to pull off the kick and it goes wide. People will talk about it because of the Lions kicking troubles, but it's not even an issue to me. I don't think I have ever seen a kick go through when the whistle blows half a second before contact, so it's nothing for me to sweat over.

I'm really surprised this hasn't been talked about more by the analysts. The whistle clearly goes off right before he kicks the ball. Nobody will convince me that wouldn't be a distraction.

It'd be easier to agree with you guys if praters initial reaction wasn't as if the world had ended. Didn't seem like he even heard a whistle.

I saw exhale a sigh of relief after but I missed anything else. Quite a few Lions thought there would be a run off of the clock, it's very possible that Prater made that face before he realized he'd get to kick it again.

On the radio after the game, they were talking about some doctor who is the unofficial injury speculator based on what he sees on TV. I guess he's predicting that it's an MCL sprain w/ a 1-3wk recovery period. From what the radio guys were saying, he's usually right on the money. He supposedly pegged the Tulloch injury right away.

A lot of US pegged the Tulloch injury..

Good for you, Mitch. I'm just relaying what I heard on the radio. This guy (not sure they even said his name) is the one that Jay Glazer and the like go to for injury speculation stuff. Unlike most of us here, the guy is a medical doctor w/ a sports injury background. That probably means he's slightly more qualified than Fat Tony on the couch eating nachhos and watching the Lions, though maybe not a ton since he doesn't actually examine the players in any way.

MCLs have very different recovery times based on degree of how intact the fibers are. If they are fully intact than sure...1-3 weeks. But the fact he couldn't really walk on his own makes me think they are atleast partially torn. which would be longer. fully torn would be much much longer....usually longer than 3 months and could possibly require surgery.
