Ferguson, MO

the point is bias isn't institutionalized racism. It's a totally separate issue with a totally different cause and a totally different solution. Everyone has biases and bias pervades everything regardless of color, gender, religion, etc. It's not any more an issue for cops of any color than it is for anyone one else of any color and bias is not why minorities have more interactions with cops, it's not an unintended consequence of bias - it's a direct consequence of disproportionate crime rates.

You should make a sign and tell the people protesting that they are all classifying their life experiences incorrectly. Maybe they'll go home then.

If I thought showing them a sign would suddenly turn them into rational, reasonable people, I definitely would do it but that wouldn't be what the sign said.

I googled that scenario and I didn't find that video. The second video down was this one.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...punching-new-jersey-teen-head-during-n1007641

I guess some police officers are assholes to white people too.

He is resisting arrest. Punching a suspect to comply is allowed by policy in most department. And yes him not rolling over, and keeping his arms underneath him is considered resisting.

Now striking the guy repeatedly in the face is a different story. Pretty sure that is a no, no.

Had the officer been striker the body or shoulder/arm to force compliance that would actually be an appropriate use of force.

facts are facts. a city like mine will have no unlawful stops and lethal shootings. Place B will have several. Whats different? More crime isnt the reason theres more unlawful stops...they havent done anything wrong so they shouldnt be stopped! More cops and racial targeting tends to be the reason there is more unlawful stops.

And thats just the start of the conversation. Answering the question "Why is their more crime" in those areas presents a lot of other examples of social injustice.

If it is truly an unlawful stop, than case can be thrown out in court.

But you know, thing like speeding, not using turn signals, or not wearing a seat belt are reasonable cause to stopping the vehicle.

Also if you want to minimize speeding tickets, dash cam that is connected into ODB port which displays speed on the video can help you from tickets.

Where I live you can get a ticket by 'eyeball' alone.

The horseshit part of it is that it's just a money grab. It isn't there to make it safer to drive or to slow traffic down...it's just to make money. If they wanted to make it safer they could just post a cop car there and people would slow down. Hell, don't even put a cop in the car, and people will slow down.

I dunno, I have been pulled over about 8 times in the last 2 years, I was speeding every single time. Never got a ticket. They just run my DL, plate and check for insurance, and ask me to "watch my speed".

One of these occurrences was while on my Ninja doing at least 100 MPH when I was clocked, (cop cars are very hard to spot at a distance nowadays) so I can't complain about traffic stops, and never once was I asked to allow them to search my vehicle.

But, I am white after all.

yes, I've been pulled over a few times over the past year or so and was given the same treatment. The cop ran my DL and told me to slow down.

It's awesome being white

Was anybody given immunity for this shooting?

You protest to get change from the government. Where did this idea that you should therefore also protest to get change from criminals come from?

my guess is Tigermud's comment is that the BL matter movement is doing very little regarding the huge number of black on black killings (not that this was one of those instances). My guess is for every incident of a police officer killing a black person there are about 1000+ black people killed by other black people. Both are significant problems, but maybe focus some energy, resources, and bring attention to the problem that kills 1000x more black people every year.

Sure. No big ask there. Please solve the issue of crime before you're allowed to protest other things.

Theres too many people that believe in BLM and what they think it stands for, for a bunch of white people to sit on a sports forum and say it doesnt exist lol.

That doesnt mean it doesnt have its problems. Chicago for instance i heard the numbers are 14,000 homicides a year. 1/2 of those are caused by blacks. 96% of those 7000 are black on black. Why isnt BLM addressing that?

Only 7,000? Heart conditions impact way more than that every year. Why don't they protest people going to McDonalds? Heck. Why aren't you?

Everybody should just protest unhealthy eating. We shouldn't be allowed to complain about anything else until that's solved.

notice I didn't say solve it, just focus some energy on it. Apparently, they don't think it's a problem worth addressing.

You don't think people focus energy on fighting crime or you think it needs to fall under the name BLM?

Good question. Also, there are some root tenants that BLM seems to champion that I cannot.
There is no mention of reconciliation. Power is the motive power, it appears. Fathers are not essential to the "transformation" and "revolution" and, of course, BLITWDNM. (Black Lives in The Womb Do Not Matter.)

Odd that a movement that wants to transform society believes that it would be more successful with fewer potential members in it.
