Final AL Playoff Order

Updated

Tigers gained a game on NY
Texas passed Boston for 3rd best record in the AL

Boston and NY lost, everyone else top 6 won

Boston's WC lead shrinks to 2.

Both Boston and Tampa will have opportunities this week, Tampa plays the Yankees and Jays, Boston plays the Orioles and Yankees.

Yankees remaining schedule
1 vs Twins
4 vs Rays
3 vs Red Sox
3 @ Rays

A bad week and a half and the Yankees could find themselves out of the playoffs.

Meanwhile in the west, Texas is still holding a 4.5 game lead. Texas and LA play each other in 3 for the last series of the season. Depending on how they play this week, that series will be either crucial or meaningless.

So Happy if the Yankees miss the playoffs. We need to be rooting for this to happen. Verlander would win the MVP hands down.

I dislike the Yankees something fierce. But I'd rather have Boston get left out.

Updated

Yankees won (thanks Twins)
Boston split a DH with Baltimore
Angels lost (and are quickly fading)

Yankees and Rays start a big series today (bigger for the Rays, but a Rays sweep could tighten things up in the East)

Updated

NY, Texas, and LA won
Detroit, Boston, and Tampa lost

The Yankees magic number is down to 3

Wild Card remains tight

Detroit and Texas have the same record, but Detroit holds the head-to-head record over them right now, which keeps them at #2.

Updated

Yankees win the east

Tampa and LA keep it close for the WC being 2 and 3 games back, respectively.

Yankees magic number is 2 to clinch the #1 seed

Rays play the Jays this weekend
Red Sox play the Yankees
Rangers play the Mariners
Angels play the A's

If the Yankees don't take a break the rest of the season, Boston could lose the WC lead this weekend.

BTW, if by some miracle Texas or Detroit catch up to the Yankees and tie them

Detroit would win the tiebreaker over the Yankees (4-3 vs the Yankees)
The Yankees would win the tiebreaker over Texas (Yankees are 7-2 over Texas)

Updated

Texas wins the west, all the division winners are now set.

Boston and NY got rained out last night so they'll play a double header tomorrow

Boston gained though despite not playing as Tampa and LA both lost last night

As of right now, the wild card standings are

Boston
Tampa 2.5GB, E# 4
LA Angels 3.5GB, E#3

Updated

Texas moves ahead of Detroit to gain home field in the ALDS

The Yankees have clinched the #1 seed, while it's still possible for the Rangers to tie the Yankees, the Yankees hold the tiebreaker over the Rangers.

Boston loses, while LA and Tampa win

Tampa is now 1.5 games back. Boston has a double header against the Yankees today. If the Yankees sweep the double header and Tampa wins, Boston and Tampa will be tied for the WC spot.

Current match-ups switch to

Yankees (HF) vs Tigers
Rangers vs Red Sox

If LA finds a way to win the WC spot, they will play the Yankees.

Updated a little late

Boston and Tampa remain close in the WC race

LA is still clinging on to hope, they are 3 games back, need to win the rest of their games, and would require both TB and Boston to be swept in order for a game 163 to be played involving them

A win by Boston or a loss by LA and LA is out of it, if LA is out of it, NY is guaranteed to play the 3rd seed.

The last series of the season for these teams are
NYY @ Tampa
Cleveland @ Detroit
Texas @ LAA
Boston @ Baltimore

September records tell a lot about these teams

NYY 16-9
Texas 16-6
Detroit 17-6
Boston 6-18
Tampa 14-10
LAA 13-10

Updated

Boston and Tampa are now tied for the WC lead.

Texas remains a game ahead of the Tigers.

LA has been eliminated.

The Yankees are guaranteed to play the 3rd seed.

Updated

It's as simple as this

Regarding the 2nd seed and ALDS home field

If the Rangers win OR the Tigers lose, the Rangers get the 2nd seed

If the Rangers lose AND the Tigers win, the Tigers get the 2nd seed

Regarding the WC

If Boston and Tampa both win OR Boston and Tampa both lose, a game 163 will be played to determine the WC winner

If Boston wins AND Tampa loses, Boston wins the WC and plays the 2nd seed

If Tampa wins AND Boston loses, Tampa wins the WC and plays the 2nd seed

Possible scenarios
Rangers win OR Tigers lose

Yankees (HFA) vs Tigers
Rangers (HFA) vs Boston/Tampa

Rangers lose AND Tigers win

Yankees (HFA) vs Rangers
Tigers (HFA) vs Boston/Tampa
