You don't give up 1200 yards of offense in 2 "important" games and still maintain your job security. I will guarantee you Cunningham gets fired.

I won't complain I just don't see it.

I don't get it. What don't you see? Somebody takes the fall for that mess and when it's that bad, you ALWAYS see a coach go. That was beyond brutal out there........

Not arguing that he shouldn't go just don't see Schwartz making that call.

Give him the option to save face? Fuck that. Fire the old man in the locker room in the Bayou...lol.

Would make for an interesting interview.

I'm sick of predictable, repeated 4 man rushes that QBs step around 95% of the time. Bring a LB or, heaven forbid a DB on a blitz for once. Maybe the most generic NFL defense ever.

They do that for a reason. The CB can't cover 1 on 1.

Well even if you double cover, any decent wide receiver will break free eventually if you have no rush. When you don't mix it up, regardless of what you think of Detroit's secondary, offenses will eventually pick you apart.

Monster [/color]]realistic replacements?

For Gunther? Anybody!! There's always an up-and-coming "hot" coach or bring in another veteran guy. Ther's ALWAYS somebody.

Yeah Gunther has to go... The defense was worse as the season rolled on.. What one good game in the last six or seven...

We're coming off our first playoff appearance since 1999 and people are calling for heads to be fired?

That happens when your defense is the reason you lost....

1. A CRUCIAL playoff seeding game against GB's second team by giving up almost 500 yards and 6 TD's to MATT FUCKING FLYNN

2. The actual playoff game and gave up over 600 yds and 40 pts in the process.

This D has gone as far as it can with Gunther......time to bring in someone new that is a bit more aggressive in their play calls.

Just because we made the playoffs doesn't mean we should stick with what we have. This team is good, but NOWHERE near elite.

Too much talent on the defense to be that bad. I blame it on the wide 9/vanilla defense. He has to go. We got abused.

+1

It's not just that. Success at the QB position has a lot to do with your pre-snap reads. With Gunthers D.....its so easy for a qb to do. We NEVER bring pressure, never make a qb have to make quick decisions, or even question what they see. If we don't get quick pressure....its 4-5 seconds for a qb to make a decision and in the NFL....I dont care if our secondary consisted of Deon Sanders, Rod Woodson, Charles Woodson, Ronnie Lott and Derrell FUCKING Revis, that is TOO MUCH TIME. Especially against elite QB's like Brees or Rogers.

I think people need to understand, its not just about being "good". Its about being able to beat the best. What do the Lions need to do to beat the GB's and NO's of the NFL. It's not going to happen with Gunther Cunningham.

In the Lions 4 games against NO and GB this year....the oppositions QB's were......

112 / 156 - 71.8%
1595 Yards - 399 yards per game and 10.22 per ATTEMPT
14 TD's
1 INT - of Flynn

THOSE NUMBERS ARE FUCKING STUPID. I get it, anyone's numbers against the best of the best arent going to be good. But Detroit will NEVER win if their D can't do better than that. Gunthers cant.

Sorry.

I tend to agree that GC has to go. Consider this: You're the D Co-ordinator and you have Suh, Avril, Williams, Hill, VDB, Jackson, Bulluch, Levy, Duran, DY, Houston, Smith & back-ups like Carpenter and C Harris and newcomers like Nick Fairley...I'd say that should be at least an average D. They played the second half of the season like they wanted it to be 2008 Part Deux.

How about Jack Del Rio. He was a below average head coach but his defenses were always decent.

If the Lions don't reasonably pursue Spags, something is seriously wrong with their heads. This D, under Spags, would have been a top 10 instead of bottom 10 because he gets creative with his D when he is DC. If the Lions land Spags, then they become instant SB contenders next year. Keep Gunther and they remain playoff contenders who lose in their first playoff game.

Defense wins championships! A solid D with this O and you are looking at the first 19-0 team, and Stafford breaking every QB record for a season because the O will have so many more opportunities. Heck, I could see Staff averaging 400 yards per game and 4 TDs if they had a top 5 D that consistently stopped teams and got the ball back to the O. Yes I realize that would be 6400 yards and 64 TDs which would shatter the existing records...but I'm serious that the only thing preventing that from happening is a solid D. He'd likely even put up those numbers by the end of the 3rd quarter and the team would be playing 2nd string in the 4th most games.

I was very happy that the Lions soundly beat the Chargers @ FF to clinch a WC spot, but in hindsight, had the Lions D also been torched by Rivers and SD's O, perhaps the Lions then having fallen short of a playoff berth may have led to GC being canned by now...just sayin'...
