That trade will be an albatross all year. I think D.D. got to full of himself and thought every move he made was the right one!

Not really , Krol has been pretty darn good and everyone thought Ray was awesome his first 2 starts . Funny how opinons change so drastically after a bad outing or 2 haha ...And it really seemed that Smyly would slide into that 4th/5th slot nicely . Noone expected him to suck so bad .

Bottom line , way to early to tell . Right now i think its around a push .

This would be a better baseball team with Fister.

Dombrowski flat out blew it with that trade, really can't be denied at this point.

Yep. How much better would we be with Fister in the rotation and Smyly helping Joba hold down the back end of the bullpen? Way better. In my opinion it was a stupid trade at the time, its a stupid trade now, and it will forever be a stupid trade.

A top 30 pitcher, for a loogy (Krol) who is terrible at stranding inherited runners, a maybe SP who has looked good and terrible both and is currently on the DL, and Steve Lombardozzi who our GM thought so much of he traded him for a guy he kept all of 9 days.

And you're calling other people idiots.

Agree. The only difference for me is "at this point" was the second I read about the trade.

Determining the outcome of a trade 1/3 into the first season of the deal is moronic . Of course you can say right this minute we would be better off with Fister because Smyly is sucking and Fister has come back from injury and has thrown a few good games .

Its just stupid to say the trade was a debacle so early into things .

Just like i told the people how stupid they were that were saying how great we did the trade when fister was injured and ray had the 2 great starts . It goes both ways , because its idiotic to say one way or the other so early .

But only 1 of those players has been a top 30 SP the last 3 years.

This is it right here. Unless Ray manages to become a top 30 pitcher (possible, but not likely), this trade will be shit. LOOGYs and utility bench players are throw-ins at best, so this trade does and always will come down to Ray vs Fister, and for the foreseeable future, Fister > Ray. Just like much of the roster this year, this trade was based on DD hoping for the best possible outcome.

I was against the trade from the beginning... DD did not get enough for Fister that is not even debatable... Hopefully the kids will pan out but right now it is not even close.. Team would be so much better with Fister starting and Smiley in the pen...

I agree Big, other general managers said D.D. could have gotten more in the trade. I like D.D. But I think his success went to his head. Krol is average at best, Ray was figured out by the league (after 2 starts) I might be a little tough on him, and Lamborghini is in the minors for another team.

You idiots just dont get it , no wonder i quit posting here . The league figured Ray out ? LOL , one of the dumbest comments ever ...Ray is considered our #1 pitching prospect right now , Krol isnt just some throw in either .

The move had many reasons behind it , the fact Smyly has sucked is the ONLY reason you ding dongs are saying what a horrible trade it was . Oh when Smyly had a few good starts , Ray pitched good in his short stint and Fister was shelved with back issues this trade was a great success .

Smyly throws a good game tonight and you clowns will be flip flopping again

I have never flip flopped on this trade. It isn't contigent on what Smyly does or doesn't do. It is all about Ray right now. Can he develop that secondary or tieriery pitch needed? He can occaisionally get by with his fastball, but he cannot make a living as a starter that way. This will obviously not be determined in a few starts one way or the other.

IMHO...this trade sucked/sucks becuase DD did not fill any positions of need in return.

I don't have to resort to name calling or bullying if someone disagrees with assessment. It is a message board.

Ray as the Tigers top pitching prospect isn't saying much. Ray has to figure himself out first, He is still a work in progress, trying to find his third pitch.
There is no depth, last year was one of very few that a starting rotation 5 pitchers all started around 30 games or more.
This Tigers team isn't going far the way it is constructed.

The bottom line is it is to early to determine a "winner" of the trade . Last month we were the big winner , now Washington is . Next week we will be again ...it never stops

Figured some of you were smart enough to know you dont judge trades after 1/3 of a season ....but i guess not
