'bout time, only took 8 games to decide on a #1 tailback...same one that most of us figured it would be

2 carries vs MSU...

Let's see if he can keep it up. I still think we'll see Smith and Shaw.

certain complainers who post here might not be happy with this. in the chat room saturday, all I kept hearing about was how Toussaint goes down as soon as a defender so much as breathes on him.

ANYWAYS, as long as he stays on his feet long enough to avg. over 100 yards a game, I'll be happy.

Well I do like that things are slowly getting settled. I think a lot of these players will make significant jumps in the off season because they'll be able to work together as a #1 offense or #1 defense.

Really? His balance can definitely get better, but he does a pretty good job of squirming for the extra yard, on top of his big play ability.

It'll be the same story it's been the last handful of years with UM running backs though, can he stay healthy...

Oh I like Toussaint. He's name is a little long and we need a nickname for him, but I do like him and think he can be a great back IF he can stay healthy...(looking at you, Brandon Minor.)

I'm just more grumbling about how it took 8 games to find 1 back when we heard all spring and summer that they want to settle on one back. This reminds me of days of yore when it'd be midseason and we'd still be having position battles.

That and I just like to grumble every now and then about something.

I'm guessing the two topics in this post are intertwined.

Me grumbling and how the coaches named a starter? Or 2 other topics?

That means that there will be competition for the job, which is always a good way to make the entire RB corps better. The "committee" approach is never, IMO, an effective way to promote excellence at any one position.

I'm the one I think to whom the former Champ was referring. I think Fitz needs to become a stronger runner and break more tackles. There were several times this year when I thought he could/should have broken a run but was brought down on what I considered a "weak" or "cheap" tackle. I know VSmith is "pound for pound" whatever they say, but to me it's clear he's the stronger of the two runners, but is hampered by his size. Fitz has the size, and I wish he ran more like Smith; he'd be a much more dangerous back.

Keep in mind too that he's only a RS sophomore who's still growing and getting stronger. But at this stage, I think it's ok to expect him to do more.

He'll get stronger if he can stay healthy for a bit. He's been hurt so much, its hard to get stronger while you're recuperating from so many injuries.

Yeah, sorry, should have deleted the grumbling part.

I'm guessing there was an undisclosed injury keeping Fitz from getting those carries.

Now if they could only settle on a qb...

I love the way Smith runs too, but I think he's more hampered by a lack of speed than size.

But yeah, Fitz has room and time for improvement.

Yeah, when are they going to solve THAT problem?

Fitz and rawls are going to be dangerous in 2yrs. Hopefully devin steps it up by then

Toussaint was the leader of the Haitian revolution, in the latter half of the 18th Century.

His other name was Louverture, so maybe we could make Louverture Fitzy's nickname...
