Game 101 Tigers @ mariners 4:10pm ET July 27, 2019

orioles have taken the first 3 of 4 @angels, and other than last night's game, it hasn't been close. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games, and the Kittens are now 3 games up on the chase for the #1 pick in '20.

Anyone see the angels losing 2 of 3 or being swept by Kittens beginning Monday?

OPEN MIKE!
Totally Tigers

It?s the last Sunday of the month, folks, which means it?s your day! This is the day for you to be heard. Today is the one day during the month (normally) where you get the opportunity to comment on the Tiger topic of your choosing.

This is the one day of the week where we open up the comment parameters for you, so you can really get those juices flowing. Comments on THIS DAY ONLY can be expanded to a maximum of 8 sentences. So pick a topic and let us hear from you! What?s on your minds?

What does Lloyd McClendon have on the Tigers that he can remain as a hitting instructor for the worst offense in baseball? These guys aren't getting better, they are getting worse. 29 other teams would have fired their hitting instructor by now, if not purely for the symbolism to the players.

I swear this organization is dysfunctional.

DET is 8-38 since May 31st. 8 1/2 games worse than the next team, BAL (17-30).

Run Differentials since May 31st:

DET -122
BAL -68
CHW -61

Yes they are;
A Boston writer confirmed that 2 years ago, the Red Sox made the highest trade offer for JD Martinez. Tigers refuse to work with Dombrowski and ended up taking the lower offer from Arizona.

The same thing Avila has on them. How did that guy get an extension? I don't see this team becoming a contender until they get a new owner.

Extending Avila the way that Ilitch had, is more than enough proof that assembling a top notch FO, scouting, and minor league system is not any priority, nor is eventually fielding contending teams. My guess is that he believes that filling or selling out CoPa is no longer necessary to maintain a lucrative profit stream from ownership of the franchise.

It will take a couple of years to find out if that is absolutely true, when Avila will no longer be able to publicly claim that the franchise is still amidst a rebuilding phase. Since there is still very little of promising positional prospects being developed in the minors, and little if any chance of Ilitch spending on pricey FAs, other than those willing to accept a one year contract for ~5M tops, mediocrity or bust will no longer be exclusive to the Lions organization.

We'll find out a lot after next season. Zimmerman's & Fielder's money will be off the books. That's $31M. I don't expect that they will go after top end free agents (and I really don't want them to) but they can get a couple of quality free agents. Maybe they can turn Boyd or Fulmer into something next year or after next off season (if Fulmer comes back to a respectable level.
