Game 107 Rockies & Tigers Aug 2nd

Agree he's been excellent throwing out runners this year

That's really a poor way to judge a catcher though.

Most bases are stolen off the pitcher, not the catcher. and our staff is generally pretty bad at holding runners close and keeping them from getting a huge jump. I'm interested to see how Price does, being a lefty he should limit the running game by default.

The caught stealing for Alex Avila in the 3rd was his 20th of the season, which is the third most in the American League.
I have read the Tigers pitchers are making a concerted effort to change the amount of time/seconds they hold the ball.

God that was a Bomb by Miggy!!!!
Gameday says it was an 88mph FB.
Anyone see a different speed?
Earlier in the game, Dan and Jim were saying he was uncharacteristically getting around on FB's maybe the 95? idk

And that's possibly one of the things you can chalk up to have a manager who was a former catcher. He knows how important it is to limit the running game from the pitching rubber, rather than behind the plate.

I don't think victor is 100% still, he's missing a lot more pitches than he did before the injury tweaks

Miggy actually seemed kind of surprised that one went out, probably so used to those being caught on the track this year.

Wasn't leyland a catcher as well?

Right.

But I think AA is really defensively solid all around...and he really works well with the pitching staff, it looks like to me.
