Game 11: Vikings @ Lions *Thanksgiving* Thread

I know after that first drive I really thought we would spank the vikings by 10+ Probably should have because that was not pass inference.

I lost my shit on that play. Pretty early in the game to get the "here come the bs calls" feeling. Even though we pulled off the W, I hope Caldwell, Quin, or the Fords file a complaint. Its fucking nonsense

Shit makes no sense....

Since 2008, eight NFL teams have trailed in the fourth quarter in each of their first 11 games of a season. The other seven teams were 4-73 (.052) through 11 games. The Lions are 7-4 (.636).

Stop trying to make sense of it and try to fucking enjoy it. That's your problem right there. You're looking for areason to shit on this team and you can't lol. Enjoy it, man!!

The Lions have Matthew Stafford and their D is playing well enough to keep them in games. Stafford just has it in the fourth quarter and that's been evident for more than just this season. Reminds me of Brett Favre in that way. As a Lions fan when we would have a lead of 6 or less on Favre's Packers with a minute or two left you might as well just turn the TV off because the game was over. Favre was 99% going to drive Green Bay down for the win. Stafford has that right now.

And the late game coaching has been outstanding. Especially clock management. As a Lions fan we shouldn't take that for granted. We've seen atrocious clock management over and over.

Stafford 99 rating. Defense giving up 20 points or less in last five games. +3 turnover differential with only 8 turnovers in 11 games. Prater clutch. Win two shootouts of 3.

This is how you go 7-4.

8 good defensive games out of 11 really points wise. Colts and Packers were both away and do have above average to good offenses. 10th and 11th right now. Colts dropping with Tolzien now. Especially when Packers had Lacy.

Ten is 7th and Wash is 8th in PPG offense. Detroit did well against them at home. at Saints and at Cowboys will be huge tests for the defense. Detroit should be able to score on those teams though.

Great job by Detroit so far. Keep it going.

I found it very frustrating to watch this game and not see one Lions sack against a beat up Vikings O-Line. Then I realized everything was three step drops, quick release short throws. That was the Vikes game plan and it almost worked. But trying to throw a little longer on a 3rd-and-7 combined with a great defensive scheme call and big play Slay finally burned them.

LBs and Killebrew making big time stops short of the sticks last two games. Bynes rebounded after a bad game against Jax. Whitehead looking a little better. Williams good for a rookie in limited time.

I like the 3 safety look they have been playing.

I think the Browns are going to go 0-16 and join our exclusive club, and it's going to feel good!

its only fitting to have the 2 worst franchises in league history be in their own little exclusive club of shitiness.

Lions are a great franchise. 4 NFL Championships. Really good first place team right now. 11-5 2014. 10-6 2011. A few 7-9 ref influenced seasons shouldn't damper your feelings on this current ball club.

7-4 2016, 6-2 finish to 2015. That is 13-6 in last 19 my friends. Winning team.

Talent and coaching looking good. Won 6 of last 7. 7-4

Bring on the Saints and their stud offense to test our defense.

Sorry LKP 1957 was way too long ago, my memories don't go back further than around 1983 for the Lions Eddie Murray missed FG against the SF at which SF then went on to be a dynasty, that's really my earliest memory of the Lions. My cousin and I ran up and down the hallways throwing toilet paper everywhere after that loss cussing up a storm and whatnot.

I understand how many of you guys can say what you posted regarding two teams of decades of shittiness, or I only go back to 1970's, 1980's, 1990's.

There are not many, if any here, that are my age and can remember when the Lions and the Browns were the two best teams in the NFL.
I was a kid of 10 in 1957, but can still remember the original 2 minute drill QB Bobby Layne leading the Lions to come from behind wins, and in the next to last game of the regular season Layne breaking his ankle and Tobin Rote leading the Lions to the Championship in a 59 - 14 win over the browns with a rookie Jim Brown.
The Lions had a great O line with Lou Creekmur and Dick Stanfil, and Harley Sewell, DE Darris McCord the leader of the original 'Fearsome Foursome', MLB Joe Schmidt stopping runners with minimal gains, no gains, and loss of yardage, and one of the best, if not best defensive backfields of all time with Jack Christinsen, Yale Lary, Jim David, Terry Barr, and later Dick LeBeau, and a few years later Night Train Lane, RB's Hopalong Cassidy, John Henry Johnson, WR's Dorne Dibble, Jim Doran, and TE Leon Hart.

Poor management, drafting, a curse? and whatever else in the nearly 60 years is going to make many Lions fans feel like they have sucked since before they were around.
I am waiting like the rest of you for the Lions to return to their 'elite status, and have not had as much if any confidence in the front office since they fired Mayhew and the others and hired Quinn.
All these years of mostly shittiness will take time to correct everything.
Quinn imo, will do quite well as I think he has initially with front office, drafting, and is not afraid to drop, trade, and make plenty of moves during the season. They are in the infancy of what I hope is a new beginning for this franchise.
Hope I am still breathing, and the rest of you are around by the start of the 2018, 2019, and 2020 seasons.
If they still are shitty, I eat crow, but I am banking on a change to the 'same old Lions" theme to the 'Roar Is Restored'.

I will admit for the first time in many many years I didn't feel like they were going to find a way to lose Thursday, it did feel different, I wasn't sure how to act when not mocking them every 5 mins, so I just sat there stone-faced like Caldwell.

By the end of the day though I always ask one question, are they good enough to win a SB right now? mmmmm NO, therefore I still don't get too excited. It would be nice though if they could manage to win the Div this year and maybe even win a playoff game for the first time in 25 years! that would be a good start in restoring the roar.

I don't expect them to win the SB this year either. Getting into the playoffs and winning at least one game this year would be a good step towards what I think Quinn is building.
I know, in the mean time, the next 2/3/4 years there will still be lots of frustration and venting.

Getting into the playoffs this year would more than exceed my expectations....especially after dropping games to Ten and CHi early in the year. No way i thought we'd sweep min (granted they have the worst injury status of any team right now) and i didnt think GBs defense would completely dissappear. We are the most healthy team in the division right now and could potentially get Levy and Abdullah back for a potential playoff run.

Oline is playing better than expected. Run game still sucks. We cut down on sacks and penalties and we dont turn the ball over. The offense hasnt clicked which means weve won an unprecedented amount of close games.

With that said the defense is playing better than i expected. No idea how cause we dont pressure the qb, cant cover and give up a completion percentage to opposing qbs thats astronomical. Somehow it works in the end.

We either need to continue to take the ball away more than we give it up....or we need the offense to figure out what the hell they are doing.

Schedule isnt shaking out to be too bad the rest of the way. Both divisional games left are at home. Need to steal 1 or 2 on the road from Saints, Gmen or cowgirls.

I did notice the tackling has been pretty good lately, I think that's how they are doing it, good solid tackling?

As for levy honestly I don't think he'll be much help I'd just rather see him not come back

Allowed 20 or less last five games. 4-1. It is tackling and timely clutch turnovers. 17,20,16,19,13 to be exact. The 20 was the loss on the road to an undefeated home team in Houston with solid d

Won 2 of 3 shootouts. Scoring 31 on rams is impressive. Colts allowed 30 pts 4 times but 39 was highest by detroit. Lost in lambeu. Expected. Bad first half but almost a comeback

Beat eagles in back and forth game with big play slay at end. Scored 24 on 4th ranked d.

Lost to Titans and bears despite good d those days. Refs hurt us in those two and the offense didn't overcome

Good special teams, defense and timely offense. Avoid turnovers. It's how they won in 2014 too

Patriots 13-6 in last 19 ref season. 4 of 6 losses by one score

Yes. The similarities are in the numbers.
Lions 'are' good, with some luck as well.

I think we would all agree the Patriots have a bit more all-around talent and depth. and the teams they played in their schedule, is it a stronger/weaker strength of schedule?
