They should know. You can have mental lapses even with good coaching
If you were having that many mental lapses a good coach would not have you in the game.

Someone was supposed to block on the strip sack. Someone was supposed to help deep on the Wallace bomb or get pressure.
It's not one player all the time. It's one player here, one there later in a big play. Little things that add up and the opponents are taking advantage coupled with the lack of good Oline and Dline play due to injuries for the Lions
It's Decker missing one block, Prater missing one kick, Martin shanking one punt, one drop by Golladay, one missed assignment on the Wallace bomb. Adding up to down 30-20. Then pressure from a injured Oline leading to Stafford pick short field. Stafford injury leading to Rudock pick 6 and suddenly its' 44-20 from 27-20
I'm almost positive Quin got beat deep under estimating Wallace's speed. He was the deep help.
Injured players mistakes, a few mistakes that the other healthy team capitalizes on.
Injured Oline can't protect enough. Injured Dline can't get pressure to force other team mistakes
People can agree with me or not......certainly it's your prerogative.....but I believe the Lions are a slightly below average team, who's quarterback makes them above average......who's coaching brings them back down to average.
Just my thoughts
The team is below average in every category but K and QB. Just how much Matt S. is above average I'm not sure. He was part of the no scores first Q/first H.
Oh I'm with you. His fumbles hurt, no doubt. I believe we are above average in the secondary as well.
Which is even more impressive considering what they have to work with up front.
IMO it's on of the main reasons guys like Lawson have taken a step back this year.......our pass rush is so anemic and our underneath coverage so bad it makes our back 4 or 5 look worse than it is.
Major improvements are needed. I do like what Quinn has done so far. We are a deeper team 1-53......but we need more starting talent.
Ngata, Hyder and Ansah hurt/playing hurt killed the pass rush. You are talking 3 of 4 starters. Robinson and Washington didn't step up and now Washington is hurt. Zettel did well but has been regressing of late. Hill got hurt as a pass rushing DT which leads to rookie Ledbetter getting extended playing time. Spence was a jack of all trades with experience but has sucked. Davis/Whitehead not much as blitzer. Wilson was a good blitzer but got hurt too.
Ansah a FA and Hyder/Ngata had major injuries. So they will go heavy on the Dline and will need better DT depth. Zettel, Washington can be a fringe starter and depth but they need to do more. So two DEs are now needed at least plus a pass rushing DT.
This will help Davis. Along with a year of experience under his belt. He must figure out his coverage problems though. Whitehead is solid but needs to be re-signed. A better SAM is needed. JRM is depth but need more (Bellore and Worrilow both failed). Bellore could be 6th LB though for ST or Longa. Copeland got hurt in offseason.
Oline. Need a LG to replace Glasgow moving to center or resign Swanson. There are some good centers in FA though. Decker, Lang, Wagner and Glasgow are set as 4 starters. A good backup swing tackle and guard are needed. Might be Dahl at guard but he got hurt. Corey Robinson is not the answer. Greg Robinson failed but worth a shot given the timing of the Decker injury (after FA and draft).
Running back. Get a power back.
CB2. Lawson or Hayden back cheap, Tabor improves in year 2 but still could sign a vet over all 3 of them. Would it be worth getting a Malcolm Butler to have Slay and Butler. That would be pretty shut down and make us really set at CB.
SS. Wilson is a FA. Can upgrade here and there are a lot in FA too this year. Killebrew a wild card but some reason they started Diggs.
8th most cap space and full draft. Can accomplish all of this
