Tigers haven't got a hit against 70 year old johnny cueto in 3 innings.

Tigers take a 2-1 lead in the 4th.

Meadows triple. Vierling double and error gets him to third.
Single by Carpenter.

Our dumb pitcher gives up a 0-2 count triple.
Pitch catches way to much of the plate. Why give in ? Just waste a pitch !
Just a stupid pitch . Guy was swinging at anything.
Lopez chases a 1-2 count wage pitch.
Sac fly 2-2.

Where is the outfielder to help Spencer ?
Ball drops on a damn little league play for a double.
That ball should be caught.

Spencer is so so going back on balls.
Lucky 4-3 inning over.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

After Monday night’s game, the Detroit Tigers reached .500 for the first time since June 5th. Since July 1st, they have a record of 28-20. That is 2 months of playing above .500 ball.
If you include the month of April, the Tigers have played above .500 for half the season.

Of note is that during this time, the Tigers lost many of their crucial players to the IL including Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter and Parker Meadows. Since the end of July, they’ve been working with only 2 remaining starting pitchers and a mix of bullpen relievers.

With 30 games remaining, they need 13 more wins to break last year’s win-loss record. It would also be the best year of performance since 2016.
Potentially, 21 more wins would propel them past the win record of 2016.

Putting this year’s performance into context, and comparing it to the past 8 years, how impressed are you with how this team has started to play during the 2nd half of the season?

How impressed are you regarding this team's play during the 2nd half of the season?

1. It's impressive.

2. It's starting to look promising.

3. Still not impressed.

Tigers 36-18 this year when Parker Meadows plays.

Parker Meadows in August

.333/.368/.583

The Tigers are 14-4 in games he's played in this month.

Parker Meadows has been one of the most valuable players in the AL this month. His 1.1 fWAR so far in August is only topped by Aaron Judge (2.5), Bobby Witt Jr. (1.9), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (1.4), Jarren Duran (1.4), Juan Soto (1.2), and José Ramírez (1.2).

Part of Detroit's success in August has been fueled by energy and aggression on the basepaths. As explained here by Jason Benetti and Dan Petry, no team has gone first-to-third on singles more often than the Tigers this month.
