Game 133 Tigers vs. royals August 29, 2018 2:00 start

I agree with all of you .. What a big cluster-mega-flibber- biscuit this has all been . Zero world series titles from 2006-2015 with all the talent and yet the Giants have 3. Man we were so close . I sure hope it's not another 1988 to 2005 stretch :/

You certainly can't believe the Tigers are in the position they are in now because they signed Mike Pelfrey, Mike Aviles, Mark Lowe, & Mike Mahtook

Those are the types of personnel decisions that are what past and current administrators made. Willing to spend money (owner), and who to spend that money on (management), are two separate issues in my mind. I am NOT voiding Illitch of some blame, but you are with management. I don't get it.

Additionally, DET has had one of the worst draft records of any team over the past 10-15 years, compounding the problem. That is certainly not Illitch.

Jordan Zimmerman
Upton
Prince Fielder

Those HUGE mistakes trying to chase titles. Add in extending Miggy at the absolute worst time. Those decisions were all on Mr I.

I'll give you Fielder but we got out of that pretty well I thought.. Not sure how much he was involved in the others outside of saying go spend GM.

10 year deals suck but if Miggy wasn't signed I don't see us any better just a lower payroll. We can't draft and that was largely Dombrowski..

After the 2015 season, when the Tigers went 74-87, the Tigers signed Jordan Zimmerman and Justin Upton. That was not the time to mortgage the future. That was when they should have taken a step back and looked towards the future.

After Miggy's MVP season they signed him to a stupid contract given his age and he had all of the leverage. They should have let him reach free agency and deal with it then.

These are the type of decisions that are ultimately made by the owner.

I am not saying the GM's have no blame. They made terrible decisions as well. But the direction of the franchise is ultimately the responsibility of the owner. Chris Illich is doing the right thing now. He is trying to gut this thing and re-build it. It's not the popular decision but it's the one that he is forced to make because of his dad's pursuit of a title.

You and I can agreed then the Upton and Ziimmerman signing were bad and that the Tigers were "overspending". None of that changed 3-5 years later, just the organization is in sad shape.

Moron's named Avila has not helped. I get that bottom line it was Ilitch's money, but the GM sold him on it. The only signing I know of that you can pin on Mr. I is Fielder. The rest are the management / dysfunctional analytics. Go back and read why they got Pelfrey, Anthony Gose, Mark Lowe, etc, etc. That is the mindset that is guiding the ship. This is not like football and the Fords. It is entirely different in baseball.
