Game 15 Falcons @ Lions Thread

I'll be honest, I felt worse when Marinelli was coaching, the team was 6-2, and absolutely collapsed. That was more of a kick to the gut because the turnaround was insane. I have gone numb after so many weeks watching this team. I feel like I used to feel about these guys, just not giving a shit. No matter how well they did the previous year, I made sure not to get my expectations too high, because I know the way this franchise runs. I hope this year reminded people of the product we have, and seem to be forever stuck with.

Maybe you guys heard Gruden differently, but I'm fairly confident the entire conversation was that Calvin's yards were empty, not about garbage time. He said that these numbers are meaningless because the team is shit. And he's spot on. These don't mean anything. And the fact that people are giving standing ovations and talking about how amazing this record is scares me for our fans.

They mean a lot to the fans because we stick around and watch this team every damn game. Its nice to have something to cheer about, jesus. Its not like the Lions get blown out every game, they find new ways to lose which means that as calvin is gaining these yards they are still in the game. Its not his, nor the fans, fault that this team has an uncanny ability to fuck up. Calvin Johnson has the most yards receiving ever in a season and we arent supposed to cheer? F that.

What exactly do these yards mean? Do they mean the team going to the playoffs? Do they mean the team is finally showing success? I can't put on a happy face about this record. It's cute, it's nice, but this team is SHIT, and it's frustrating that there are people who seem to love this record, but ignore the team (yes, I listen to a lot of sports talk, and know a lot of people with this mindset). If there was ANY balance on this squad, and there was a competent group of receivers besides CJ, he wouldn't have this record, and I would be happy, because the team would be successful.

The team sucks, I agree. Calvin does not, hes the best reciever in the league, to not cheer for him is something I dont understand. Would I trade this for a superbowl? In a heartbeat. The yards mean he is out their busting his ass trying to help the team win, its not his fault the team plays like they are cursed.

I'm not saying not to cheer for him. That's fine. I'm just saying there a lot of people around here who focus on this record, and seem to not care about how bad these guys are.

Fair enough, I dont umderstand the mentality of not caring how bad these guys are either. It pisses me off to no end that they play like a joke. I am proud of Calvin at.the same time though.

You know what I had enough with, down 8 early 4th inside the freakin 5 and we kick a FG. Way too often this season.

My sister is a lifelong Steelers fan who never had much like for the Lions. But after CJ broke the record, she commented about her newfound respect for him.

Not because of the record, but for how he handled the situation. No showboating, no attitude. Just ran to give coach the ball to hold, accepted his congrats, back on field and ran next play all without delaying the game.

That is how we need all Lions to behave. Too bad so many fail to grasp his example, let alone follow it. That includes the coaches.

Agreed, though I still don't know which upsets me more, the fact it even got to 4th down without getting a TD or choosing to kick a worthless FG. Time is ticking off the clock, need that TD on first down, second down at worst. Too much talent to even have to try on third, shouldn't ever get to that point even if it means a soft toss jump ball to CJ. Y does staff always rifle the ball into the crowd? Just lay it up for CJ to go up and get it over the shorter DBs!

Just a bad season. Come Sept. 2013 and I'll still have optimism. The heartache of being a Lions fan. At least we got baseball around the corner.

just like Barry used to,

Elias Sports says Calvin Johnson 5th player in history w/ 4+ gms of 200+ rec yds:
L. Alworth, D. Hutson, C. Hennigan, J. Rice http://es.pn/12xFKqC

Calvin Johnson doesn't break NFL record. His 225 yards receiving with no TDs is only tied for 2nd behind K. McCardell's 232.

Labatt Postgame Press Conference: Calvin Johnson.

ok very seldom do i defend the lions this year.....BUT to say that Calvin is the recipient of "garbage time" yards is fucking idiotic. Get your dumb ass back in the film room gruden.....weve been in close games every single week minus a couple dumster fire weeks. To say theyre garbage time yards is just plain dumb....

Gruden is completely wrong. The Lions have played 15 games this year. And it came down to the final possession, either for us or our opponent, in 11 of those games. I can't imagine any other team in the league has played 11 games that came down to the very final possession where the team had a chance to win it, lose it or tie it. So it's just not factual to say that. I hope they say the same thing about Adrian Peterson then. I guess you need to make sure you bring up how he gets garbage time yards when his team has a lead and they turn around and just hand him the ball late in games.

Now if Gruden would have said too bad this season was wasted on a 4-11 team...then he would have been absolutely correct.

I don't see it as wasted because we're 4-11. Great accomplishment and if he gets 2000, even greater. When Barry was doing his thing, it was just as exciting even on bad teams.

Way too many stupid calls:
down 21-3 we kick a fg on 4th n short
2nd n long around the 12 and we run it to get it to 3rd n 6ish around the 7 yardline....why?

we have 4 wins....why are we still playing conservative?!

This team just loves to piss me off...all I asked is for CJ to get his record and for them to let Turner and Gonzalez get big points for my fantasy team. Only 1 of the 3 happened.
