* JaCoby Jones broke an 0-for-11 skid when the official scorer generously awarded him a single on a ground ball that Manny Machado couldn't handle in the second.
He smacked a more legitimate single in the seventh and then used alert base-running to get to third on Jose Iglesias' infield single.
Boyd struck out six and got 12 swings and misses. He also got 18 called strikes.
He threw three fastballs at 90 mph and one at 91. Everything else was 89 or slower. But he continues to mess up hitters? timing by adding and subtracting on four pitches.
The velocity range on his curve ball was 69 to 77 mph; on his fastball 85 to 91; on his change-up 73 to 78 and on his slider 76 to 82.7.
His 95th pitch of the day struck out Davis to lead off the seventh. Manager Ron Gardenhire, as he did Tuesday night, turned the game over to his bullpen.
The Tigers missed an opportunity to get a valuable insurance run when Leonys Martin struck out and Jeimer Candelario grounded out to end the inning.
* Martin is now 0-for-10 with four strikeouts against left-handed pitchers in 2018.
* Cabrera's home run gave him 1,623 career RBIs, tying Chipper Jones for 31st all-time. Cabrera is five RBIs behind Harold Baines for 30th place.
* Boyd became the first Tigers left-handed pitcher (since at least 1908) to thrown at least six innings and allow fewer than two runs in each of his first three starts of the season.
He also became the first MLB pitcher since Pedro Martinez in 1994 to meet that criteria without winning any of the three games.
* Danny Valencia provided the Orioles' only offense against Boyd with a solo home run in the second inning.
Valencia also took Boyd deep the last time met, when Valencia was playing for the Oakland Athletics in 2016.
Alex Wilson relieved Boyd, walking a batter and retiring two more. ? Daniel Stumpf was greeted rudely in the eighth, allowing a double and a single. Drew VerHagen relieved him, allowing a single, sacrifice fly and double. The Tigers? one-run lead entering the eighth evaporated rather quickly. ? After blowing what would have been his fourth save, Shane Greene picked up his first win of the season.
