Game 2: Lions @ 49ers Thread

Never understood why this stuff is even publicized, it?s not like it?s going to change the outcome of the game. Are the fans supposed to feel better about losing if the NFL apologizes?

but they don't owe an apology. It was the right call

Hey good news!

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/...it-quandre-diggs-penalty-call-nfl/1337407002/

We may get another apologies letter from the league office, yeah! sorry, we screwed up letter champions of the world!

yeah buddy!

Why do they even bother? waste of time.

It looked like a hold to me. Cheap as hell......but a hold.

I agree with Diggs though.....a ref either has to call that ALL GAME or not at all.....you cant wait until late in the 4th to throw a flag on something that could be called on every DB on nearly every play.

Great play by Walker though. Wish it would have counted. We could have run in 3 times from the 7 and then tied it up with a 30 yard FG.

It did look like a brief hold not sure if it was still within the first 5 yards though and if that makes a difference? either way holds like that can be called on any play at any time it's just a matter if one of the REFs decides to call it or not. IMO if a minor hold is away from the ball and had zero impact on the play what so ever they just shouldn't call any of them. Diggs minor hold on that TE had ZERO impact on the outcome of that play, ZERO! The play wasn't going to him at all. it's just stupid.

Watch them tweak the rule for next year, instead of winner banners at which the Lions don't really have any they should consider hanging up banner sized apology letters and copies of rule change tweaks resulting from something that happened in a Lions game.

the rafters would be full!

Fuck that play. I want an explanation on why the 49er ball carrier wasn't penalized for lowering his helmet into Slay's dome. Slay went low and still paid the iron price. It's bullshit how 1 way that penalty is.

I don't fully understand the new "helmet to helmet" rule.

As far as Slay is concerned, it looked like he took a big hit to the head in week one. I didn't think there was any way he was going to come back into the game but he did. Now he gets another one...I'm guessing he will be out for a few weeks. He was probably susceptible to a concussion due to the hit he took last week.

I may have missed it but I didn't see any concussion protocol vs the Jets.

Ansah hit him with his knee

from an article I just found

"For the second straight week, Detroit Lions All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay was out on the field after taking a shot to the head.

Last week, he took some friendly fire in the form of a knee from teammate Ziggy Ansah, and had to be checked for a concussion. He passed those tests and returned to the game."

Im much more irritated at the lack of a call on the 9ers db that basically bear hugged the wr when Stafford fumbled. That was much more egregious.

I get tired of the “they make that call and we win” BS.

Don’t hold Diggs and the INT stands....

Throw the ball away Stafford and you don’t fumble.

Stafford hits open WR deep and we score at least 10 more pts.

Jared Davis sucks right now. We had 6 coverage sacks. 6!!!

We simply need to play better and be smarter. That’s it.

You'll get no disagreement from me. As a fan base I think we've just seen it too many times and at some point you gotta hope we're on the receiving end of these calls. Even when we take it away from the refs they still screw us like the phantom facemask leading to the hail Mary. Sure we should still hold out for the w. Of course we should just play better. But it's a whole new system on defense and for most of the game that looked improved over last week. Hopefully that upward trajectory continues. This team at least looked mildly worth watching in the second half. Minus that terrible run defense.

I saw the hit but didn't realized they thoroughly checked him over.. Thanks.
