Game 2: Lions @ Panthers Thread

Alex, I hate to do this to you, but I'm going to poke a huge hole in your argument about Freese...

Hanson was drafted in the 2nd round.

Freese was drafted in the 7th round. 7th round players are 10-20 picks away from being able to be scooped up in free agency.

Please tell me you're not complaining about a 7th rd pick. Oh God please. The kid can be dropped immediately and i think he's gone. You cant miss 3 FGS in 2 games and expect to hang around, right?

Huhhhhh???? I'm talking about what Alex is discussing. It's an absolutely unfair comparison between Hanson and Freese.

I know he can. That's my point. That's why I said he's 10-20 picks away from being a free agent...

Hanson struggled early but they made the playoffs in 93/94. And like others have said, they aren't giving up on a 2nd round pick quickly. I do agree, hughes would lose his shit if a 2nd round kicker struggled that badly. We all would.

The Lions don't have the luxury of waiting on Freese to develop. They are win now. 92 they were win now but they were in the NFC Champ game the year before. Plus 2nd round kick so they gave him time.

Freese doesn't get time as a 7th rounder. However, the free agent route didn't really work last year either.

lol. Ok, my bad. I thought you were going to rip on a 7th rd pick and put it all on Mayhew. Seems to be the norm around here.

I saw Rob Bironas is available. He was a beast for me a few years on Tenn in FF. He might be worth a look.

his stats also got worse going thru his 3rd season. and u know that some of the guys on here especially hughes would be calling for fontes' head

His stats got worse in year three because his attempts went way down; lot easier for there to be bigger fluctuations.

dub- all i am saying is that is was just 2 games give the kid a chance bring in hanson to tutor him

Well, the missed FGs didn't help for sure.

But let's just chalk it up to a loss against a good defense and move on. GB coming up. They came back this week but they've got real problems.

I know Alex, but being patient with a 2nd round kicker is one thing. You know he's going to be an incredible kicker because those guys are NEVER taken that high.

There's no reason to be patient with a 7th rounder. I would take guys like Rob Bironas, and a lot of the current veterans on the market over Freese. You know they'll be consistent when you need them to be within 40 yards. Freese is shaky. This team needs to win now, they don't need to break in a new kicker.

And no-one is talking about the TD that Calvin didn't hang on to. He's made tougher catches.

Maybe, but that's not an overnight thing. For what this team needs RIGHT NOW, you gotta sign a veteran that can make kicks. If they were Jacksonville, and were constantly rebuilding, okay. You can be patient with Freese. But not these guys.

remember Hansson WAS playing like this his first few games, and i bet that there were some from this board that were calling for his head and Fontes. Hughes comes to mind.

yes the board didn't exist then but u get the point

I think we can score on them even get to Rodgers with that oline they have but I'm not sure our secondary can stop him. I suspect a high scoring game like 37-34.

These guys? We're not the Broncos we won 11 games in two years.

1991, the WWW is barely out. A different game now with web and the media online and forums like this.

Edit: And Hanson only missed 5, 3 being from 50+, in '91. I doubt many were screaming for his head.
