Game 3: Falcons @ Lions Thread

Lions were freaking screwed. I am speechless no one I mean no one nationally ever comes to our defense . If this had happened to the pats, packers, cowboys, Giants, some other teams they would be going crazy. I'm so tired of this shit always happening to the Lions.

The refs biggest fuck up is they didn't add the time back to when his knee was down prior too running the 10 seconds of. We still should have got 1 play.

Exactly, youd think they'd make sure the game clock was correct before declaring that the 10 second runoff actually ended the game

Can't wait to read the Week 3 power rankings from several sports media sites this Tuesday, given the Ravens being crushed by the Jags, Broncos losing @ Bills, Pats narrow margin of victory over the Texans, Titans win vs Seahawks, Packers 3 pt OT win vs winless Bengals, Saints stomping Panthers, and of course Falcons and 3x picked Ryan winning via rulebook.

All teams who were highly ranked last week, but lost or struggled to win today. Lions should not drop at all by losing a close game to a #1 or #2 ranked team, but would not be surprised if they are in a few power-ranks...which "should' result in the Falcons dropping a few as well.

"NFL sees week full of national anthem protests as perfect cover to once again screw over the lions"

Should be the headline on every newspaper.

I don't see that. I thought it was clear he was short. Very few people are arguing this.

They make this call no matter who the defense is.

You seem to forget the Superbowl last yr. James White ring a bell? Almost an identical setting but the SB play was longer.

I didn't watch any football this weekend...it was way too nice out!

I did see the end of the Lions game on ESPN.com...what an odd ending. It looked like the right call but it's still screwed up. I understand the rule but it's still fucked up.

Review of the James White play starts around the 3 minute mark.

I don't see this as almost identical, outside of the fact that both were called a TD on the field. If you can show me where you can find a spot that clearly shows White was short, then you have some credibility, I'm not seeing anything.

It wasn't just the refs incorrectly calling it a TD to screw the Lions. Unbelievable how a TD call FOR the Lions can screw them.

We know the Lions would have had time for one more play. 8 seconds is plenty of time.

The problem was there was DPI by the Falcons on that play and the Riddick play on 1st down. The holding call on Kerin (the 3rd string LG playing due to Swanson/Dahl injuries) was fine but the Falcons were doing that all day. The OPI on Marvin Jones was one of the worst calls I have ever seen. And that Lang penalty on the first drive is never called if he's a Packer.

I hope we get a rematch with Wilson, Davis, Decker, Swanson all back even if they have Beasley and Schraeder.

Just a bullshit call. Packers, Patriots , cowbiys, Giants, and a few others that teams and that td is never overturned ..But It's The Lions on A Controversial weekend and the league always screws us anyway. I'm just so tired of watching it.

Only other thing . JIM BOB Matt and the offense need to figure out how to score td's and not settle for 4 freaking fg's . Score a td on any of these and we win. But even with this poor offense we still were screwed again. We also failed to score after Slay's last int. Team should be 3-0. This is the nfl not any if the other 3 majors sports. You only get 16 regular season games .. They are all so damn important damn it all. So freaking frustrated.

Thanks Skip .

Only national media guy saying the Lions were screwed. Shannon go to hell.

you are delusional. I watched the replay and it would have been reversed no matter what team it was. It was an obvious reversal.

I completely disagree .. Again even if it was called right which it wasn't . The rule punished detroit for the REFS FUCKING Up the original call. BTW last I check if he was down by contact (like was called) there appeared to be 11 seconds on the clock and not 8. So not only did they get the call wrong the replay offical should have started the runoff at 11 seconds and not 8. It was a bang bang play and the td should have stood as called.
Those NFL teams who are protected by the league get that call. There is not a doubt in my mind of that.

where are you getting 11 seconds?

Give examples of these obvious calls that should be overturned, but aren't for teams like the Packers, Patriots, etc. If it's so well known this happens, should be no problem to list a few.

Tony tried, but posting the play and watching it, opposed to going off of memory, proved it was the right call. So backup your statement, or just stop complaining about things that aren't there.

The refs could have easily said "inconclusive evidence" for other teams no matter what. He was down, but they should have called him down in the first place. We need to use technology on the goal line.

A ref mistake shouldn't cost the Lions 10 seconds is the point. And then there is the two DPIs missed, the bogus OPI on Marvin and the hold on Kerin. It becomes obvious at some point that the refs are just flat out incompetent. I don't know how it always screws the Lions right at the end but it just does.

Detroit shouldn't have to play perfect or make one more play every freaking time due to ref errors. They did enough in this game. Though they gave up 20 in the first half and stalled on short fields after two Slay ints. Plus another 3 and out after a Falcons punt in the 4th too.

Luckily, it doesn't kill the season. Plenty of big games to play to have a good record. Still 2-1. Bring on the Vikings. Big game

In the end our offense only was responsible for 16 points in the game.
In the first 3 games only 6 out of 34 drives have covered more than 50 yards.

Jim bob and the rest of the offense need to figure out this quickly.

We've scored 10 TDs this season. The offense has covered a total of 349 yards for those 10 TDs (Offense has scored 7 of the TDs).

The rule's intent was to discourage teams from faking injuries or causing intentional penalties to stop the clock after the 2 min warning when they had no TOs.

Has that situation ever occurred or been enforced?

lol

Obviously it should have been more clear and included language to the effect that teams will be penalized 10 seconds upon any overturns after automatic review of scoring plays.

Lions have had a lot of short fields though. Converted to TDS until yesterday with just the FG.

2 pick 6s and punt return get a TD but take away an offensive drive. The offense moves the ball. Played some good defenses. More work to do. Drops still an issue. Run game 2 of 3 games an issue. Oline injuries an issue

The offense has the talent and can win a lot of games. Some more tough defenses coming up but some relief then after with Saints, Packers, Browns

There's pics all over the internet. For some reason I can't copy and paste shit lol.
