Game 3: Patriots @ Lions *Sunday Night* Thread

Carson had 102 in 32 carries verses the cowboys . But overall it was 39 carries and only 113 yards by Seattle. Hopefully we can pound the Cowboys on the ground.

Whats the deal with Gronk's huge arm pads?

Looks like he wants to try out for the Kansas City Bombers roller-derby team.

Eli Harold had 2 sacks tonight, and 1 last week. Is he a Patricia special reclamation project ?

August 23, 2018: Traded by 49ers to Lions for a conditional 2020 pick (7th round pick; conveyed if Harold remains on Lions roster for four weeks)

The 3rd and 9 Pass play only up 13-10 to Golladay was probably the best play of the night, and the best pass by Matt.. A few plays later the play action to Jones for a TD put the Lions back up by 10.

Time of possession
20:45 NE
39:15 Detroit

Damn.

I know NE was missing like 3 starters on D but they played a very vanilla D all night. Basically a shell D, very little additional pressure, sat in zone a lot. Was weird to see... our offense took what they were given all night and dominated top. Very good execution by the oline. First game I've seen in awhile where Stafford didn't have to go win it... he just had to not lose it.

I know talent wise we should be 3-0.. jets and 49ers losses are were so bad. Jets for sure.
I hope Jbc improves his red zone play calling .

no, the Lions are what they are. They should be 1-2. The only difference is if teams play to their abilities, they should have beaten the Jets and lost to the Pats.

I can't imagine us keeping this game within 14 points. Pats will be pissed they lost badly to the Jags. Since 2010 the Patriots have lost back to back games only 4 times (happened twice in the 2015 season).

Probably no Slay and Brady will have plenty of time to throw. Patricia just isn't ready to beat his master yet. Stafford would need to play a pretty perfect game to have a chance to beat the Patriots. I'm really hoping we don't have another prime time embarrassment Sunday night.

Maybe the Patriots weren?t pissed enough?

While I’d like to see more Kerryon in the early downs, last night showed flashes where the 3-man committee can work. It won’t produce the sexiest stat lines but should be effective overall, as long as the Lions don’t fall behind early. Play action looked like it was actually working last night.

New England first back to back losses by more the 10 points since 2002.

One thing JBC did really well last night was use Blount in the passing game early. That?s something he hadn?t done at all this year. He really mixed up the play calling well. Ran in passing formations and passed in running formations. The TD to Golladay was a great example of throwing in what has been a run heavy formation....Golladay motioning to the end of the line and standing there at the snap.

There is video of NE calling out our toss sweep to Blount, and 1/2 their players breaking to the play side at the snap....so there?s work to do with some of the hand signals and designs.

All told a really good game all around but it?s not like we played perfectly. Stafford missed a TD to Jones and he also miss read that INT. Nobody deep on that ball to Willson....he should have put a ton of air under it.....a good throw and it might have been a TD and not a pick.

Defense got a bit lucky that Brady simply made some bad throws. It was weird to see him playing so poorly. Some of it was forced, some just plain lucky.

Gotta get a win in Dallas and i?ll believe we?ve turned a corner. Lay a giant turd next week and this game, like the Jets game, just becomes a fluke.

I heard on a show this morning . Can’t remember which one that even New England knew our signals but could not stop the play. Not sure the truth to it all.

Play action has worked really well for a couple years now. But an actual running game will allow more deep shots down the field. We didn?t see it much yesterday because NE was in a fairly deep cover 2 almost the entire game. Which is part of the reason we ran it 33 times with a lot of success.

I'm still stunned over this one. I thought we'd beat the Jets with a rookie QB, at home, easily.

I thought we'd beat the 49'ers the following week.

I thought we had a snowballs chance in hell of beating the Pats.

I have no idea what happens next.

Getting Lang back was big for their oline, can't have him be like oft-injured Ansah.

The rook Ragnow looked very good, esp in run-blocking last night.

I watched the Dallas game. They looked terrible. My best guess is the Lions go down there and lose.
