A clean 1-2-3 9th for the first time in a Gazillion years tigers win 7-3

NOTABLE:
Tigers starter Justin Verlander struggled with command, but pitched well in the middle innings. He got out of a jam in the sixth inning by dialing up his hardest pitches of the night -- 99 mph fastballs to Jeff Mathis.

Mathis struck out to end the inning, but Verlander ran into trouble when he came out to start the seventh. After the first two runners got on, Hardy and Greene got the Tigers out of the seventh unscathed.

Tigers catcher James McCann hit his seventh home run of the season in the second inning, a no-doubter to right-center. McCann has only 11 hits on the season; 64 percent are home runs.

Tigers right fielder Mikie Mahtook might had the biggest single hit of the game. His two-run single with the bases loaded in the fifth put the Tigers up 5-3.

Diamondbacks starter and former Tiger Robbie Ray gave up five runs on five hits in five innings of work. He also walked five. He did strike out eight batters, including two each in the first, second and third innings.

Arizona reliever T.J. McFarland lasted only one pitch in the sixth inning after he was hit in the leg by a James McCann line drive. McFarland recovered to throw McCann out at first, but left the game moments later with an athletic trainer.

In the confusion over who would replace McFarland, the wrong pitcher ran in from the bullpen. Tom Wilhelmsen turned around and ran back after reaching the mound. He would pitch later in the game.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers Win over the d-backs.

ROARS:
Bullpen: the newly minted back-end of our bullpen did exactly what a bullpen should do, they shut down the opposition with not much effort. Hardy, Greene, and the Wilsons all looked terrific.

Offense: the Tigers offense received help from all areas tonight with Romine and Verlander the only batters without a hit, although Romine walked twice. While five different Tigers batted in a run, two of which were home runs.

Verlander?s velocity: While JV struggled a bit with his pitch count and walks, his velocity didn?t. His fastball sat at 95 pretty much the entire night and he touched 98 twice. Vintage Verlander for sure.

HISSES:
Nope!

STREAKS AND INFO:
Shane Greene is one of five major league relievers to pitch at least 12 innings so far this season and not allow an extra base hit. That continued tonight when he faced two of the toughest hitters in the Diamondbacks lineup and didn?t allow a base runner, while also stranding two runners.

Miggy didn't seem to react though at all as far as thinking it was fair. So idk..
