Game 31: Michigan State 79 Michigan 62 Final

Assuming MSU wins in Iowa City (not a foregone conclusion), it looks like a win gets you 2nd place outright. A loss creates a potential 4 way tie for second. I'm not sure what the tie-breakers are for the BTT seeding but if it's head-to-head first, it presumably makes you the 3rd or 4th seed behind Maryland, ahead of Wisconsin, but unclear re: Purdue as you will have split the head-to-head and have identical overall records.

Of course, if MSU loses tonight, a win Sunday gets you a share of the B1G, but probably the 2 seed for the BTT.

After MSU/uofm, Purdue has the toughest final game at Illinois - md hosts the mildcats and wisco hosts the nittany kittens.

I think Michigan wins a tiebreaker over Wisconsin 1-0
Split with Purdue 1-1
Lost to Maryland 0-1

Not sure if um is safe for top 4. Doubt we are winning Sunday.

Tiebreakers. Net ranking could have us in trouble.

Michigan scenarios

Purdue and wisco both drop easy games to fall out of the possible 4 way tie for second place. Worst Uofm can do now is tied for 2nd and the 3rd seed - they lost the head to head and will have a worse overall record. They’ll get second outright with a win today.

Go Green!

Congrats to the Spartans on the big ten title. My wife and father in law are very happy. I doubt we keep it close today. The team is really hit a wall sadly last month.
I could be wrong. But we turn the ball over to much. We don’t rebound well with 2 seven footers. We can’t hit the broad side of the barn the last month. Very happy compared to the last two years under Howard but May has to find some guards. Seriously who had Michigan winning 20+ games this year. He has one of the top kids from the state of Michigan so I hope he helps next season.

Btt next week and ncaa selection next Sunday . Bracketology has um at a #6 seed. MSU at a #2 seed. I wonder if msu gets both regular season and btt title if they could get a #1 seed ?

**** those 2 scum guards standing on our logo while our seniors are being recognized.
Didn’t the msu player already kiss the floor ? Someone was at the line for Michigan shooting free throws and Hollaman comes towards the two Michigan players. He was jaw jacking and they all started pushing . Did someone else have to kiss the floor before the foul attempts ?

There were 3 seniors on the floor. They always do them consecutively. Fidler had just did it and when Zapala was walking to do it they moved onto the logo. That's when Holloman walked to them telling them to move. They didn't and he helped them. Akins was the other senior that went after Zapala.

I had the tv muted. Seems like cooler heads prevailed. I thought they had all kissed the floor already and they were waiting for the free throws.

Michigan needs way better guard. That is for sure. Team couldn't hit a two foot shot left alone a three point shot..

I think the guards played good enough early in the season. Feels like the season went down the shitter when 1 of your 7 footers became the lead ball handler in half court sets. He's got good ball skills for a 7 footer, but if you have 2 skilled 7 footers, why put one of them 25 ft from the basket? They lost their team mismatch when they did that.

Careful. You’re making it seem like don’t hate Michigan as much as you put on.

A somewhere disappointing finish to a fairly good, overall, turnaround regular season. Michigan finished third and one of four teams to earn a double bye.

Next game Friday the 14.

Go Blue!

And if the Spartans advance further and the Wolverines are eliminated, which is statistically more likely, I’ll say the other thing.

I expect that this game was over before the opening tip-off.

As for the "indecent" at half-court, I've been in far more violent fights in beer-league hockey games. Hell, I've been in more violent fights in my driveway as a 10-year-old defending the honor of my family.

Thankfully Howard wasn't the coach or who knows what would've happened. May quickly looked like he apologized and things cooled out quick.
That scrum never got out of the "OH, YEAH?" phase. It's not even worthy of the title of "conflict." It's one notch above "I'M TELLING!"

Do you recall the Minnesota-OSU basketball game of January 26, 1972? THAT was thuggery on the part of MInnesota. LINK (scroll down in the link to read the story)

Here's the opening graf:

"He had been wheeled out of Minnesota's Williams Arena on a long stretcher, bleeding and numb. At the university hospital he had spent an hour in the emergency room, where they patched him up as well as possible, then admitted him for the night. Now, on the day after the riot, only hours after he had become the victim of what the governor of Ohio called a "public mugging," Luke Witte was a mess."

Oh,. the hell with it. Here.
