Sparky's 40-game threshhold. He'd not be optimistic. This ain't 1987.

But he manage to power 5 home runs - plus it's not like there's not some inferior pitching once the season starts.

His hard contact rate is one of his highest in his career. It isn't hitting the ball or hitting it hard, it is the launch angle.

Also see that his K% rate is 24% ... highest since his rookie season. Walk rate is 9%. Pitchers not afraid to go after him? If so, negates his "no lineup support" explanation.

He is seeing:

The least amount of fastballs in his career

The highest percent of sliders for his career

The highest percent of swinging at pitches outside the zone

The 2nd lowest amount of pitches within the strike zone

The 2nd lowest amount of contact of all pitches in his career

The 2nd lowest flyball rate

The highest hard hit rate

Just FYI...BB% is impacted by IBB. He is not being intentionally walked.

Because the guys behind him are better right now. And who IBB a singles hitter.

The "2nd lowest amount of pitches within the strike zone" & "The highest percent of swinging at pitches outside the zone" are related and he's impatient. Why isn't he selective anymore, back doesn't prevent him from laying off a pitch.. He's not just getting old but stupid.

The howls I got from my Tucson sports friends when I said in March of 84 the Tigers would win the WS that season.

I was stunned they were scoffing me.

Back in Detroit all season Al Ackerman would say ?bless you boys - this is the year.?

Your missing the point. Walk rate decline does not mean what you think if you take out IBB. He is actually walking the same as he was statistically, minus the IBB.

And yes, he is being impatient and chasing pitches. That is called frustration. And the back can explain the launch angle. He is still hitting hard hit balls and line drives. they just aren't getting any lift.

I know Da'Mahtook is not the answer in CF but I would rather see him right now than Jacoby. Dudes hitting .325 right now at AAA with 5HR, 14BB with 12 less AB's than Jacoby. ESPN lists Jones at -0.7 WAR right now. .498 OPS. Mahtook 1.036 OPS. How much longer they gonna trot him out there? Dude looks like hes guessing on every pitch.

don't you think the reason he isn't getting the IBB is because the opponent knows that he can't beat them with a HR or XBH? Singles hitters don't get intentionally walked very often.
