Game 50 Tigers vs. Mets May 25, 2019

Nothing like going deep into extras btw two teams with no shot @ the postseason.

Soto on deck PH for RP.

But Nick Ks swinging.

Fuck Barmer gives up a walkoff homer on the third pitch...meh.

Should have pitched Jimenez another inning then PH Soto leadoff the 14th.

Tigers had twice as many hits than the mutts, with everyone except Greiner, PH RonRod and and SP Carpenter having at least one hit. ramos and his PH replacement nido doing the damage via homers.

Jones' heroics not enough as Tigers fall in 13 innings.

Mets 5 - Tigers 4: It?s Wilson Ramos? world and we?re just living in it.
Ramos drove in four runs, and his replacement hit a walk-off home run to beat the Tigers in 13 innings.

Unlucky 13: Tigers back to losing, fall to Mets on walk-off HR.

Detroit Tigers observations: Blown chances lead to 13-inning loss to Mets.

Meanwhile down in Toledo;

Grand Slam last night, 3-run home run tonight for #Tigers Jeimer Candelario.
Candelario a combined 5-for-8 with two home runs in back to back days.

Fun fact: Tigers could go 1-14, dropping 5 straight after yesterday's win, including losing the series tomorrow @ mutts and being swept @ 0's and they still would have a better record, b/c Balt will have played 2 more games than Det, both losses. As awful as they have been, they are still 2 games ahead of the royals, who have played in one more game also but will catch up to the 0's tonight after playing the second of 2 vs yanks, who are leading 6-4 after winning the first game 7-3.

The royals were swept last night, losing the night game 6-5, so the Tigers won't be "gaining" any ground in the race for the ALCD cellar-dweller, or for the #1 draft pick next year. They remain 5th, behind the blue jays, royals, marlins and orioles, and ahead of the nats, giants, mariners, reds, angels, and white sox, the last three being all tied up for the #9 draft slot.

Tigers are now exactly 200 Rdiff behind the division-leading twins and trail only the orioles in all of MLB for the worst, with two games in hand. Considering that it is only their early-season pitching that has prevented them from losing more games by higher scores, that vividly demonstrates how truly terrible that their offense has been.

That is good news, but will the Tigers bring him back up too soon? Small sample size and he needs to not only hit homers but hit for much better average and get on base via BB to improve his putrid OBP and OPS.

Candy's slashlines of .224/.317/.393/.710 in '18 and esp.192/.285/.288/.573 so far this season are far from what I was hoping to see after his late '17 season debut. I thought that the Tigers might have finally landed a frequent All-Star candidate of the future who would bat .290+ with some power. He was limited to some extent last year with an arm injury, but I would guess that he has fully recovered from that ailment.

Although there have been quite a few articles written this year on how the widespread use of defensive shift and a significant increase in flame-throwing pitchers are causing a noticeable negative effect upon most MLB hitters' stats, Jeimer still obviously needs to up his BA to at least .250ish and his OBP .320+ by the end of the season, otherwise he is more likely to wind up as a shorter-lived bust here in the D.

This team is always going to suck with the mantra of see ball hit ball instead of grinding out every at bat and wait for your pitch to drive.
