Get StartedMeanwhile down in Toledo;
Grand Slam last night, 3-run home run tonight for #Tigers Jeimer Candelario.
Candelario a combined 5-for-8 with two home runs in back to back days.
That is good news, but will the Tigers bring him back up too soon? Small sample size and he needs to not only hit homers but hit for much better average and get on base via BB to improve his putrid OBP and OPS.
Candy's slashlines of .224/.317/.393/.710 in '18 and esp.192/.285/.288/.573 so far this season are far from what I was hoping to see after his late '17 season debut. I thought that the Tigers might have finally landed a frequent All-Star candidate of the future who would bat .290+ with some power. He was limited to some extent last year with an arm injury, but I would guess that he has fully recovered from that ailment.
Although there have been quite a few articles written this year on how the widespread use of defensive shift and a significant increase in flame-throwing pitchers are causing a noticeable negative effect upon most MLB hitters' stats, Jeimer still obviously needs to up his BA to at least .250ish and his OBP .320+ by the end of the season, otherwise he is more likely to wind up as a shorter-lived bust here in the D.
