Game notes: There must be something about the home cooking for the Tigers. They've won their first two after a long road trip, knocking around the socks by a combined score of 25-6. So now it's Verlander's turn to keep the momentum going.
In his last start, the Tigers' Ace allowed just one earned run on six hits over seven innings in Kansas City on Tuesday. He took a 1-0 loss.
Designated hitter Victor Martinez was given the day off Sunday. The White Sox started left-hander David Holmberg,
and Martinez has been having some pain in his left elbow when he bats right-handed. “Yeah, that and this way I can give him two days off,” said Ausmus, referencing the Tigers’ off-day Monday. “It’s a combination of those two things.”
J.D. Martinez served as the DH Sunday, which will give him two days off his feet in terms of playing the outfield.

Tigers vs. White Sox Preview: Justin Verlander aims for home sweep of Sox.
Verlander has been much better at Comerica Park than on the road this season.
BYBTB
Notable:
With a victory, the Tigers would sweep a series for the first time this season and extend their winning streak to four games, the longest mark of the season.
They would also reach the .500 mark for the first time since May 21, when they were 21-21.
Verlander is making his first start against the White Sox since Opening Day, April 4 at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. He gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings, striking out 10 and earning the win.
White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has had the most success against Verlander, going 12-for-32 (.375) with four home runs in his career. Tim Anderson is 1-for-10, while Yolmer Sanchez is 0-for-8.
