Verlander is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA in three career starts against the Rays, while Cobb is 2-1 with a 2.35 ERA against the Tigers.
From 2016 to '17, opponents' chase rate against Verlander has dropped from 16.6 percent to 13.7 percent, while their rate of whiffs per swing on pitches within the strike zone has declined from 17.7 percent to 14 percent.
Verlander has made 15 starts in his career against the Rays and has an 8-3 record with a 3.34 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 102 1/3 innings pitched.
