WORTH NOTING:
* Miguel Cabrera returned to the lineup Saturday after leaving Thursday's game with hip flexor tightness.
He still looked tight on Saturday, although the game time temperature of 32 degrees might have had something to do with it.
Cabrera ran the bases gingerly and didn't make a diving attempt on at least one grounder for which he might have otherwise laid out for.
* Tigers third baseman Dixon Machado now has six doubles in 31 plate appearances this year; he had five in 181 last year.
* By Fulmer's standards, Saturday represented a very short outing. Last year, he went at least six innings in 22 of his 25 starts.
* Four Tigers batters were hit by pitches on Saturday (three by White Sox starter Lucas Giolito and one by reliever Hector Santiago). Three of the Tigers batters were just grazed, a fortunate outcome given the cold weather.
The Tigers four hit-by-pitches, the most for the franchise in a game since April 30, 1995.
White Sox pitchers also issued eight walks, including four in the ninth inning by reliever Juan Minaya.
Fulmer was threatened just once, in the bottom of the second inning, when the White Sox loaded the bases with nobody out. Fulmer found his way out of that jam with a flyout, strikeout and groundout. He allowed six hits, walked three batters and struck out four. Fulmer?s change-up is not yet in mid-season form.
Cabrera opened the scoring with a two-run single to right field. Its exit velocity was clocked at 114.4 m.p.h., his hardest hit since 2015, according to Major League Baseball StatCast.
He added another RBI on a fielder?s choice in the fifth inning.
Joe Jimenez pitched the eighth inning, inducing seven swings-and-misses.
White Sox reliever Juan Minaya walked four consecutive batters to open the ninth inning.
Daniel Stumpf opened the bottom of the ninth before being relieved by Buck Farmer, who retired Jose Abreu for the final out.

Gameday.
Michael Fulmer flirted with trouble in a couple of innings but finished the day with 5 1⁄3 innings pitched, allowing no runs and six hits, and striking out four. His control eluded him at times, with three walks ? and his cause wasn?t helped much by home plate umpire James Hoye, putting the squeeze on Fulmer more than once. He threw 92 pitches, 56 for strikes.
Miguel Cabrera drove in three runs with a two-run single in the third and what turned into a run-scoring fielder?s choice in the fifth. He may only have one home run so far this season, but he?s making solid contact. Will the home runs follow when mercury climbs? We?ll see, but I?m personally cautiously optimistic that they will.
Dixon ?Doubles? Machado.
Dan Dickerson bestowed this nickname on Machado after he cracked a double to left in the sixth, plating Victor Martinez and James McCann to make it 5-0 and calling an end to Lucas Giolito?s day. This was Machado?s sixth double of the year; coming into the game, he was tied for the American League lead with five. Makes you wonder if Gardenhire will move him up in the lineup anytime soon.
JaCoby Jones swiped third without a throw in the seventh, and Niko Goodrum, pinch running for Cabrera in the eighth, stole second. Neither steal elicited a throw from Sox catcher Wellington Castillo.
You have to wonder about Leonys Martin in the leadoff spot. He had five plate appearances today, and only reached once, on a walk. His on-base percentage is right around .300; is this really the guy you want at the top of the order? That said, You got to like his defense in the outfield.
