Game 75 Tigers vs. Padres June 25, 2017

SD let Booce off the hook swinging at stuff way off the plate, thanks...Booce lowers his era to 23.14

What do you do after a guy works hard and draws a walk, swing at the first pitch and auto out yourself of course, very disappointing JD you really need to stop being so damn over aggressive dude..is he trying to lower his trade value hoping to stay?

Meathook may have just ended the losing streak, pending Justin Wilson who hasn't pitched much lately

I was thinking the same about all of them. Might get traded to a gripping what have you done for me lately team.

Mikie Mahtook slapped a 3-2 pitch to right field for a two-run single, breaking a 5-5 stalemate in the ninth inning and putting the Detroit Tigers in position for their first win since June 16.

The Tigers snapped an eight-game losing streak and avoided falling into their worst slump since 2005.

Five Tigers relievers combined to pitch five scoreless innings after starter Jordan Zimmermann's exit.

NOTABLE:
Zimmermann had given up only two home runs through 26 2/3 innings in the month of June before the game. On Sunday, he gave two long balls in the first six batters.
The game almost got out of hand early, but Zimmermann struck out three batters in a row to avoid further damage in the third.
He made it through four innings, breaking a string of four consecutive Quality Starts. Zimmermann allowed five runs on six hits over four innings. He walked three and struck out five. Of the six hits allowed, four were extra-base hits.

Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias broke an 0-for-22 skid with an RBI single in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Iglesias had been 20-for-49 (.408) in June before the slump.

Tigers third baseman Nicholas Castellanos went to the opposite field for his ninth home run to tie the game 5-5 in the sixth inning. It was the Tigers' first home run of the series.
Entering Sunday, the Tigers were 31-22 when hitting a home run and 1-20 when they did not hit one out.

Tigers left fielder Justin Upton doubled twice on Sunday and has now reached base in 23 consecutive games. He's 29-for-85 (.341) during that stretch with nine doubles, five home runs and 26 RBIs.

The Tigers' bullpen, which has been ravaged on this trip, gained a measure of redemption.
Warwick Saupold, Alex Wilson, Daniel Stumpf and Bruce Rondon put up zeros in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Closer Justin Wilson, pitching for the first time since he took the loss in the first game of the road trip Monday in Seattle, locked it down in the bottom of the ninth ? two strikeouts and a pop out.

Tigers reliever Bruce Rondon made his first appearance since being recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Friday. He strolled in the from the bullpen, requested only two warm-up pitches, and then clocked 98 mph on his first fastball.
He dialed up to 100 mph to Hunter Renfroe and then came back to strike him out a slider.
Rondon struck out two in the eighth inning but also walked a batter, although that baserunner was wiped out on a caught-stealing.

Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-5 on the day and 4-for-28 (.143) on the West Coast road trip.

The Tigers finished 1-6 on the road trip.

Webvideo Highlights of the Tigers win over the padres.

ROARS:
Mikie Mahtook: Between an RBI triple in the fourth and a go-ahead single in the ninth, Mahtook led the team in win probability added (WPA).

Justin Upton: He provided most of the Tigers? offense early with a pair of doubles, but was stranded in scoring position in the first inning. He also made a nice sliding play in left field early in the game.

The bullpen: They were asked to do plenty of work after Zimmermann left early, but came through with five scoreless innings.

HISSES:
Jordan Zimmermann: The magic from his last few outings had seemingly run out on Sunday. Zimmermann gave up five runs, including a pair of solo homers, in just four innings.
