Game 79 Game Thread: Tigers @ Rays, July 1

Phil better buy Avila a steak dinner for helping him outta that jam.

I hate not having FSD anymore. Following Gamecast is pretty rough at times lol. Nice to get out of that one there.

Well, I'm almost glad to go radio/GameDay after watching that abortion of a broadcast last night by two senile old guys in Stockton/McCarver who talked less about the game then they did about general nonsense.

And I can't stand Rod Allen either.

Yeah, I was upset because the mlb radio app wasn't compatible with my ipod touch due to oldness of my touch :/ I always get a $15 gift cert to itunes for Christmas and nab that app, but oh well. And thanks for the suggestions guys.

I would not say no to an insurance HR or two this inning...

Stockton can't see so he's always giving out wrong info. It's annoying.

4-3 road trip against Texas and Tampa. I'll take it. Too bad we couldn't win Verlander's start...5-2 would have been fantastic. Sox lose.

Ballgame!

Nice, would never have expected to take 3 of 4 from the Rays with the loss coming from a Verlander start.

Now if we can kick the shit out of the Twinks and the Royals before the break we'll be in good shape for the second half.

Nice gaining a game on the Sox today, and definitely a positive taking 4 of 7 with these last 2 series. Could have been better, but still solid. Good work by our relief pitchers today.

5-5 road trip.... not bad for 10 games...And taking 3 of 4 at Tampa without Verlander winning..

.500 ball on the road will get it done. Time to start taking care of business at home though!

Villarreal has 3 SO today -- marks his 7th G in '12 w/ 3+ SO...marks most such outings by club reliever in team's 1st 79 games since '84.
Hernandez (9), Bair (8) and Lopez (7) had as many such relief outings in team's first 79 games of 1984 season.
Villarreal's ERA is also down to 1.38, despite being thrown in some higher-leverage situations in June.
Villarreal now fanning 13.5 batters per nine innings -- 2nd on Tigers staff to Dotel's 13.68 K/9 rate.
Will be interesting to see how Villarreal's role changes if/when Alburquerque comes back. But right now, maybe best power pitching on staff.

Tigers are 20-9 in '12 when Jackson has at least 1 H & 1 R in a game. Detroit is 30-26 overall w/ Jackson in lineup.

Tigers win 5-3, win 3 of 4 vs. Rays. Valverde with 1-2-3 9th for his 15th save. Will this be pivotal series for Tigers as it was last year?
The 5-3 win means Tigers salvage 5-5 trip against 3 teams with winning records.

Yeah we gotta take care of Minnesota (4) and KC (3) ... I would like at least a 5-2 home stand...Or better!!!!
