Game 89 Tigers @ royals July 14, 2019

Stumpf gets the non-hold, but will Greene come in for the non-save in the 9th?

According to Shep, Shane will be coming in to close.

Tigers WIN....and stave off yet another sweep.

Next up though, is a 4 game series @Indians, who they have beaten only once so far this season.

Tigers record is 4-4 in only 2 4-game series...b/c the other 2 had one of the 4 games being postponed or stopped due to weather...to be played/resumed much later this season.

The best that can be hoped for, is that they won't get swept, and can win A game in Cleveland, most likely.

As Detroit Tigers try to fill seats, some season-ticket holders fume.

Try as I might, I just can't muster up any sympathy for the season-ticket holders, when it became OBVIOUS that the ballclub was going south in a hurry after the '15 season. Besides, if these tix were intended for use to entertain business clients, then they might be able to take a tax-deduction. Anyone else who can afford to shell out for season tickets, ain't exactly counting their pennies on how much their kids cost for schooling, clothing and top end smartphones/laptops/gaming consoles.

Tigers 12 - Royals 8: We could get used to this ?offense? thing.
Try as they might, it?s hard to lose when everybody?s hitting.

Tigers use 19-hit barrage to down Royals, overcome Zimmermann's struggles.

Detroit Tigers observations: Offense brilliant, Jordan Zimmermann pounded.

Tigers option Gregory Soto to MudHens.
Corresponding move tomorrow. Tigers need a starter for Tuesday in Cleveland.

Zimmermann has a 7.01 era now.

With continued health (debatable) Jordan might finish the season @ 0-10 with an 8.5 or 9.00+era by season's end...further cementing himself as being the single-worst FA SP signing in Tigers' history.

DET is 4-19 .174 WPCT since Greiner got hurt.

4-9 .308 WPCT with Hicks starting

0-10 .000 WPCT with Wilson starting

Pitchers ERA/WHIP per catcher

Greiner = 4.88 ERA 1.37 WHIP

Hicks = 5.01 ERA 1.47 WHIP

Wilson = 5.82 ERA 1.50 WHIP

Record in Catcher Starts:

Hicks 15-21 .417 WPCT

Greiner 14-28 .333 WPCT

Wilson 0-10 .000 WPCT

Might as well win one out of five during the remainder of the season, and shoot for the #1 or #2 draft pick, as the season has loong been a waste, for nearly all intents and purposes. Very few players on this team appear to be worthy of returning next season, but some will have to be ....cough...Dixon...cough...b/c Ilitch has no intention of signing any FAs who are even halfway decent to more than a one-year contract, hoping to bag an outlier or two, and later flip em for more prospects.

One who the Tigers' brass did manage to flip, but who didn't really pan out for the acquiring team in the tribe was Leonys Martin, recently DFAed, but who latched onto a deal in Japan's baseball league:

Even somewhat above average hitting AND defensive backstops in MLB are quite rare, so if I was a GM of an MLB franchise, I would be picking one in the upper rounds of the draft, just about every single year.

Rebbiv what is the Tigers record this year when Miggy starts vs when he don't, just curious.

This team is going to have to play .330 baseball to reach my 53-109 prediction and I don?t think they can do it.
