Game 99 Tigers vs. royals July 25, 2017

I agree. One way or another he would get his point across but we were running basepaths bad at least in the latter part of his tenure in Detroit.. don't get me started on his Bullpen management.. not as bad as Brad but you know some rings were left in the table...

Either way i don't see any reason to keep brad around at this point given the lost cuasesness of it all

I don't like temp managers.. You win just a little bit and suddenly he's manager in 2018 and we need a whole new staff.

Brad: it happens, mental errors are part of the game

LOL

Meh meh meh oh hum

Michael Fulmer's first pitch was sent over the left field wall by Whit Merrifield.

But within minutes, the first inning was over, as Fulmer methodically struck out the next three batters.

Fulmer bounced back with a strong, eight-inning outing. His final line: Eight innings, eight hits, three runs, no walks and six strikeouts.

The Tigers have lost four in a row to the Royals, a streak that began last week with a ninth-inning walk-off loss. It's the first time since 2009 that the Tigers have had four-game losing streak against Kansas City.

The Tigers had a chance to get back into the game in the eighth when they had runners at the corners with one out.
Victor Martinez lined a ball to deep right (with an 85 percent hit probability, according to Statcast), but it was caught by a well-positioned Jorge Bonifaco, who fired the ball into the outstretch glove of Eric Homser at first base, doubling off Mikie Mahtook.
Mahtook's out was recorded before Justin Upton crossed the plate after tagging up third, leaving the Tigers with nothing to show for the inning.

NOTABLE
The Tigers got their first run in the fourth inning when Mikie Mahtook hit a two-out triple and was singled home by James McCann

McCann was swinging on a 3-0 count, which is not as strange as it might seem. McCann has battered left-handed pitching this year, while the on-deck batter, Andrew Romine, has been slumping.

Romine entered the game just 3-for-26 in July. He was playing right field while left-handed Alex Presley got a night off against southpaw Danny Duffy.

Mahtook's triple extended his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest stretch of his career. During that span, he's 15-for-37 with two doubles, two triples and two home runs.

Royals catcher Salvador Perez left the game with right side rib tightness, according to the team. He was replaced in the fifth inning by backup catcher Drew Butera, leaving only one player on the bench for the Royals, who are carrying 14 pitchers.

Miguel Cabrera's bloop single in the second was the 2,600th hit of his career, moving him past Steve Garvey for 82nd place on the all-time list.

Garvey played baseball at Michigan State.

Fulmer didn't allow a home run during a two-month, 10-start, 70-inning span in May and June. Has given up five in his last five starts.

The Tigers scored one run on eight hits. James McCann hit a bloop RBI single in the fourth inning.
Martinez and Miguel Cabrera each had two hits.

ROARS:
Michael Fulmer continued to do what he does best, pitch deep into games and give his team a chance. Tonight he worked eight innings of three run ball with no walks and six strikeouts, all swinging.

HISSES:
Everyone not getting a roar. Seriously. You want an example? How bout the bottom of the eighth. The Tigers get the first two on with a ultra rare Miggy infield single, then somehow avoid a double play grounder that is only one out, only to see Victor fly out on a shot down the line which Mahtook didn't read and got doubled off first before J-up scored from third. Inning ending double play, no run scores, another opportunity wasted.

STREAKS AND INFO:
Miguel Cabrera hit a bloop single in the second inning to record his 2,600th career hit, and 1758th as a Tiger, currently sitting 10th all time in franchise history.

Mahtook extended his hitting streak to ten straight games with a triple in the fourth inning.

The next double from Victor Martinez will be number 400 in his career.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
First-pitch Whit: Royals leadoff hitter Whit Merrifield gave the Royals a 1-0 lead when he hit the first pitch of the game from Fulmer, a 95-mph fastball, into the left-field seats for his 11th homer. It was also the second time this season that Merrifield has hit the first pitch of the game for a home run -- he did so off Seattle's Felix Hernandez on July 4.
