3rd and 10, up 9 in the 3rd and Bullough and harris have mariota dead to rights and don't finish him off, he flips if for a 17th gain and a touchdown later in that drive.

Sometimes it's one small thing

That was the turning point, we had all the momentum. It was further complicated by the 3rd and 12 scramble for a first down. Crowd got into it that sparked something in them, we really gave it away after that point..

Those are the plays that Mariota makes though. tough loss, kind of a strange game but what are you going to do? I'd like to get them at a neutral site in the playoff.

Im satisfied by 2-3 quarters of play, we werent expected to win this but controlled most of the game. Its not the W I wanted but im not overly upset about it.

We wanted the win and this hurts the NC aspirations but I still think we'll be Damn good this year and win the big ten again.

My thoughts as well.I have a feeling there could be a hiccup or two in the B10 season but there "shouldnt be". Hope the poor 2nd half will be used as leverage to improve here on out. Also, why is Kings not in at WR?? He was a force towards the end of the season last year. I havent heard Arnetts name either, I guess hes a bust.

the pick play for the first TD of the 2h and the missed hold on 3rd and 9 w/ Oregon in their own territory on the 2nd TD drive didn't help either. I don't think the calls were the difference but when defense is running out of gas and those things contribute to extending drives or give them scores, it hurts.

MSU isn't going to make the playoff. Even if they run the table the Big 10 is going to be left out because of how shitty every team is this year. BIG10 is too weak this year to send a 1 loss team.

It's not like they lost to one of those shitty big 10 teams. I agree that it would take some magic to get in, but it's possible. I think they need to win every game convincingly in order to be considered.

well, almost anything is possible but it is highly unlikely. There are a lot of good teams out there this year. Any 1 loss SEC or PAC10 team will get in before a one loss Big10 team because how weak the "BIG"10 is this year.

it's week 2, I'd say it's just a little early to say that. Smart money says that our biggest competition for the playoff will be Oklahoma since you'd bet the SEC champ, Pac12 champ and FSU will be in but you never know.

we just need to win our games and see what happens but to say that it's all over is stupid

the problem is the perception of the Big 10. There is a good chance that two SEC teams would get consideration before the Big 10 champ. Also, if USC happens to win the PAC10 a one loss Oregon would get in prior to a one loss MSU. There are more scenarios where a team gets in over MSU than MSU getting in. Hell, the way things are going MSU may not play another team that is ranked in the top 25.

for two SEC teams to get in, they'd have to both be from the same side which is entirely possible with Bama and LSU. I'm just saying it's way too early to count us out, there are a lot of unexpected losses out there for a lot of teams, MSU possibly included.

another thing about the playoff, if somehow a 1 loss MSU gets shunned for a 1 loss oklahoma, LSU or USC, that would send the message that it's better off to not schedule tough non conference games. We went on the road to a top opponent and held the lead with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

It's probably smart to not play a tough OOC schedule.

Also...it's unfortunate for MSU that there are 4 quarters in a game. The fact is they lost by 19 which doesn't look good.

It's not really a perception problem, the B1G really does suck. That said, the B1G sucking is what will also give us our best chance of getting back in the playoff - clearly osu and uofm can get better but it's going to be a lot easier to run the table in the B1G than it will be in PAC12 or even the SEC and we'll be moving up from 13th, not unranked like last year. We don't deserve it because we're clearly not one of the 4 best teams in CFB and the scenario analysis is kind of a waste of time at this point anyway, but based no this weekend, if anyone from the B1G deserves it, it's us.

the point about the 2 minute mark is that the game was much closer than the score indicated. if you're just looking at the score you think the game wasn't competitive.

as far as playing tough OOC games, i'd favor the team that played a tough schedule given equal losses.

best hope for us is that Oregon and LSU go undefeated, Wisconsin doesn't lose until the big ten title game and we win all of our games.

I watched the game and it was competitive through 3 quarters. Then Oregon took over. You can't dismiss that. I don't think it would be a good thing for any SEC team to go undefeated since there could be two others with only one loss.

Best case for MSU is OSU win out and beat them, Wisky win out and beat them in the BIG10 championship game

Don't jump to conclusions and assume I'm dismissing the final score, I'm just saying to your average writer who votes in the AP, the game looked more lopsided than it really was.

I didn't mean you specifically...just a general term. I should have said "the final score can't be dismissed"
